Have a good clear out first. Don't take anything you won't need. Then when you pack label each box with the room it will go in and type of contents. Keep a spare crate for the things you pack last minute like mugs, teabags and kettle so that goes on last and comes out first when you get to the other end. |

I'm also moving, a week on Friday, boxes and tape everywhere.
I've moved around a lot, and I always lose at least one lot of things I needed to keep lol so now I just go with the flow, they are just possessions.
Have different coloured stickers or pen for each room, and if possible have one colour box for upstairs and another colour for downstairs.
Also I find it best to do the lions share of unpacking straight away, it's an ideal way to flush what's important and what's not (what's not unpacked in a month is probably not important and can be binned) |

Sorry to hear it. Moving is expensive and such a hassle.
Our tip is definitely to buy/acquire some proper boxes. Don't even think about packing in plastic bags |

In the last 59 years, on average, I have moved house every 2 years, at least.
List what is in your boxes, number them, try to do boxes for each room.
Also be brutal and chuck out stuff that you haven't used. |

I've moved 3 times in the last 15 years.
Top tip for packing ~ pay someone else to do it for you. I know that's a luxury but the last time I moved it was a life saver
Otherwise be brutal and clear all your crap out.
Start packing early as possible, labelling boxes as you go.
Good luck! |

Be ruthless with your clearing out.
Online, buy a large pack of strong packing boxes and a pile of large lightweight bags to pack up clothes and bedding.
Then be even more ruthless with a further clear out. |

I've not even bought new house yet or put mine up for sale but I'm starting to clear out and pack already. |

I got the removal men to pack for me last time I moved and it made such a difference.
I'm never moving again though, it's so stressful. They'll have to carry me out of here in a box. |

My last move was a fucking nightmare, my mum and sister packed up everything of mine and my then 8 month old daughters, in a couple of hours while i was at the police station doing statements after my ex had battered me. Nothing was labeled, they'd used what was to hand in the way of boxes and bags, we then spent 8 weeks at my mums before I got this place, finding everything was 'interesting' I've no plans to move again! ![](/icons/s/eek.gif) |

Just about covers it all. Also, don't forget to put the transit bar on to the washing machine or at least put some heavy blankets in it.
Oh and one more thing that might worth while if youre moving the stuff yourself, is to brush up on how to lift and carry stuff to avoid injury. |

In the 15 years we have been together hubby and I have moved 6 times and the last one we not only moved house, we moved countries. Now that was stressful. Some very sound advice above. Use the opportunity to declutter and good luck in your new home. |

moved 2 weeks ago,and the above comments about chucking out as much as possible first is really sound advice...and good boxes...we'd actually saved ours from a previous move, along with a few big plastic ones which are great for crockery adn kitchen stuff...kitchen stuffs always a pain to shift! good luck! |

We moved last October. Top tips are never leave any packing until the moving day but bare essentials, check all cupboards the day before (I found an entire double fitted wardrobe rammed with clothes at 11a.m. on the day), label, label, label and if in any doubt at all label again, ruthlessly get rid of stuff, estimate how long it will take you to do things on removal day and double it, deep clean the day before and get a takeaway.
Good luck and happy new home. |

I've moved about 17 times (five of those is the last 18 months)
That's including the move in a week and a half and I hope I get to stay there for longer than three months!! Haven't lived in a house for 18 months, not one where I can wander about naked anyway lols
Some top tips there. I don't think me and Ads need to worry as our life is basically in the car and the room we live in, gonna feel so weird having a sofa to sit on!!
