Mrs N suffers almost daily but it's usually with varying degrees of severity. From an annoyance that she can take regular painkillers for, to day long migraines that nothing touches regardless of what she takes.
Sometimes the only thing to do is suck it up, that's what her consultant neurologist said. |

If a damn good wank don't cure it i'd try a hot steam bath or plonk ya face over a hot bowl of water with a towel to keep the heat in and see if your ailment soothes itself |

I'm a migraine sufferer & Migraleve makes mine worse. There is a new one on the market but I'm allergic to one of the ingredients.
For me, and it is a bit odd, but taking just 2 paracetamol with a whole can of fat Pepsi often makes it more bearable!
Good luck, it's not nice to be like that every day! |

Have you tried beta-blockers? They helped with Mrs N's on occasion. |

Cluster headache and migraine sufferer here. Amitriptyline does work for me..you will have horrid side effects but they will go after a while (6 months for me) I call them zombie pills..experiment with the best time of day to take them so the drowsiness impact is the least. I used to take mine about 3pm so I was tired earlier but able to get up for work the next day. Hugs. I hope you feel better soon. X |

I think it's a case of finding something that works for you.
If mine turns into a full blown migraine then I often get paralysis down one side of my body.
Also finding out the cause can open the door to getting relief.
Have you had full scans etc? |

Do you drink enough? Paul suffers with headaches and I can totally pinpoint it's when he has not had enough fluids. He was in agony when he got in from work yesterday I pushed him with fluids and he was OK after a couple of hours. Dehydration is a top cause of headaches |

Daith is a very good idea and medically proven I'm going to get mine done but it's not the flappy bit it's the horizontal bit just above. Xxx |

I suffer migraines thankfully not as often as I used to, I found about the only thing to sort me out was 800mg of brufen a pitch black room and sleep, now I suffer relatively mild headaches but much more continually... I've found that removing all pillows has alleviated these headaches.. weird at first sleeping with no pillows but the headaches when I woke up stopped almost completely. |

Without going down the pills route, have you checked your diet? Staying hydrated and avoiding things like caffeine and highly processed carbs could help. A friend of mine found out she was intolerant to phenylalanine which is in most drinks..
Also if you have certain vitamin/mineral deficiencies can also bring on a wide range of symptoms.. |

Everyone has a different cure for their own headaches and everyones severity and suffering is different.
What you are likely suffering is a dehydration headache made worse by anxiety which has then activated certain trigger points in your back which constrict blood flow to your head which all in turn perpetuates the headache.
Having just spent a week coming out of something similar, drink lots (water mostly), take the amitriptaline dose (they are relaxing your muscles in the back where the trigger points are constricting blood flow), spend some time in dark rooms with no TV, no internet, no phones (to reduce the overall anxiety), concentrate on something you want to do that is fun in a few days time or try formulate a positive plan and just try and get some stress free sleep - 10/15 mins or an hour will pass and you will wake up all new and fixed

Doesn't have to be a tumour..could be a cavernoma which I have..depending on the size and location can cause all sorts of symptoms and can be life threatening in some cases...mine was discovered when I had a 16 day migraine and I had lots of scans. Mine however isn't the cause of my headaches..so they tell me.
If the headache persists go to casualty..I did 3 times before they scanned me. |

Hot bath and foam roller...work out that tension without the stress of having to go out or pay...can work wonders. |

This;
Doesn't have to be a tumour; could be one of many things ( lots of which can be found with a scan)
Don't let a lazy Doctor fob you off with " you don't need a scan" nonsense.
They just don't want to spend the money. (bankrupt NHS and all that)
Insist.
Get a second opinion.

This can be a result of an infection of the sinuses in your forehead - it's a bit like a migrain but not quite as strong and far more persistent. It can be cleared up with antibiotics, but can take some time. Hope you recover soon |

My headaches, backache, leg snd arm aches were caused from grinding my teeth while asleep. Dentist made me a sheild to wear at night and no more headaches. I dont need it all the time and if i feel any aches coming on i wear it and they go away. I am sure you have tried lots of treatment at the doctors. But the dentist was my saviour. Hope you feel better soon xx |

I used to have blinding migraines every few weeks, tried loads of things from the Drs, no lasting real success. In an un related issue 3 years ago, I was prescribed tablets to reduce elevated blood pressure, high but not seriously high.... BP now down to reasonable levels..... and no migraine for 3 years...... Coincidence??? |

I was once like you I get the odd pain.
Few things to try.
1. Change your pillow for something soft you may need to try a few out. Try and go for a mid range. (£35). This helps blood flow from neck to brain.
2. Press down on your temple for 30 sec really hard and let go try that a few times and that should easy the pain.
3. Get a good neck massage. Hard to explain but rest your body on the bed but with neck hanging off the bed. And get your partner to apply oil on your neck and pull each hand away but drop your neck in each palm. It would look like your sucking his cock he will be standing. I hope it's clear.
I hope you get better soon.

I suffer with migraines and have since having meningitis about 3 years ago.
I was for a short period on amitrptalyne but like someone else said the side effects were horrific, it started to have a huge impact on my life so my neurologist changed me to propanalol. Although from time to time I get a rogue they are a lot less frequent.
I hadn't had one for months until last week and I think it was pressure in the air that caused it I have a gel mask that's also blacked out I use, ear plugs as any slight noise would make my ears ring, and I use a ice bag similar to a wheat heat bag but one that can be frozen I put that on the back of my neck and go to bed.
I also now know how to see one coming on I get what I can only describe as cracked glass in my eyes or it's like I'm looking out of cracked glass. Soon as that happens I do the above. |

I (mrs) have had this done for a good while now and I've not had a bad headache since I don't think they work for everyone but I do think it's at least worth a try so happy with mine |

There is another option that I don't think had been mentioned....do you have your eyes tested ever?
Glaucoma can cause the same symptoms as migrain and be far more persistent...with the potential for losing your eye sight.
A workmate's wife found she had this recently after persistant migraines for many years.
Check it out. X

Whilst they can be needed to diagnose pressure problems..spinal taps can cause far worse headaches if they leave a leak..so if your head hurts more afterwards please tell them!
Thinking of you. X |

Have you had a lumbar puncture when they admitted you to hospital?
If so they shouldn't be doing another so soon it's very dangerous. And unless critically ill no dr would.
It's good the ct scan was clear, and if it was a menegitis it would have picked it up along with a lumbar.
have you changed something in your diet recently that could be the cause? |

Not for headaches but I do take amityryptaline for long term pain relief and they do help a lot. What dosage have they started you on? They do take 2 weeks to start feeling any effect too but preserve with them. Personally I don't get any side effects and can take them as late as 11pm and still get up fine but I'm on a fairly low dose. Hope it helps headaches are soul, destroying when they last a long time x |

A woman i work with had debilitating headaches for months, after lots of drs appointments, hospital referrals, and various treatments and medications, she eventually tried a daith ear piercing. She says within 24 hrs the headaches disappeared. She has only had one mild headache in the four months since the piercing, and that went after twiddling with the piercing. |

I can quite regularly get migraines that last 3-4 days so if the painkillers havent helped in the first 2 i just stop taking them to make sure i dot end up with a painkiller rebound headache
I wasnt keen on the amitriptiline they gave me because of the side effects ... But the last time i had one lasting 7 days it turned out i had a migraine and sinusitis at the same time so it might be worth asking incase they missed something like that |

I take 10mg when I'm having a cluster...the side effects will eventually go..it may take months but they will. If you need to get up early take the tablet earlier in the day so it wears off by morning but please be careful if you drive while drowsy. X |

I can quite regularly get migraines that last 3-4 days so if the painkillers havent helped in the first 2 i just stop taking them to make sure i dot end up with a painkiller rebound headache
I wasnt keen on the amitriptiline they gave me because of the side effects ... But the last time i had one lasting 7 days it turned out i had a migraine and sinusitis at the same time so it might be worth asking incase they missed something like that " ..Well they are still doing tests so fingers crossed, they gave me morphine and the dam headache hasnt gone yet |

Chronic daily headache syndrome .....ask about Botox treatment....most neurologists do it on the NHS. |

Morphine can cause migraines.
There's lots of preventative stuff, they'll always start with amitriptyline , if it doesn't work they'll move to the next.
Migraleve is just paracetamol and a small amount of codeine with anti sickness, overpriced and ineffective.
I'm on candestarten, which has reduced the severity but not the number (15 a month).
Keep at it and they'll find something that works.

There is lots of research currently which says that pain killers in general can increase and intensity, so sounds bizarre but there are lots of people finding a short "dry out" period without the drugs results in the pain going away. This obviously isn't an option if your taking the pain meds for something else. |

"I think it's a case of finding something that works for you.
If mine turns into a full blown migraine then I often get paralysis down one side of my body.
Also finding out the cause can open the door to getting relief.
Have you had full scans etc? ..Ive had lumber puntures in the past because of raised pressure levels, but thats ok at the moment,i asked about a brain scan and they say my symptoms are not that of a tumour etc,if you have a tumour you are violently sick and your head is worse when you lay down.So no he dosent think i need a scan.
This;
Doesn't have to be a tumour; could be one of many things ( lots of which can be found with a scan)
Don't let a lazy Doctor fob you off with " you don't need a scan" nonsense.
They just don't want to spend the money. (bankrupt NHS and all that)
Insist.
Get a second opinion.

Know that feeling. I'd be considering calling the Dr if you aren't getting pain relief from morphine, there are other options and morphine causes me to have migraines ( not a rare reaction apparently) |

headaches like this are usually caused by a stoppage in the spoinal fluid up and down the spine, neck and into your skull..so a spinal massage or a craniosacral therapist, should be able to give you long term relief, unless you have an underlying health issue causing them
if you have digestion problems the cause will be near the sacral region of your back, not actually in your head..this is due to the nerves that come from the spinal column to your abdomen..not many people know that that also causes headaches..i hope you take the time for yourself to go get physically treated x |

Amitriptiline has some horrible side effects in my experience. I've used migramax on prescription but its just aspirin with an anti-sickness agent. I don't feel sick with my headaches so i'll just use dissolvable aspirin from now on. |

This happened to me years ago - constant headache. I haste required eye test - no problems. The amitriptyline sent me wah-wah and I was put on an anti epilepsy drug (topox or something!?) the did nothing either - I was on the list for a brain scan when I went to the dentist. They removed a wisdom tooth that had large hole in it I couldn't feel and my headaches that had gone on for a few months ended!! I never even had toothache at all! |

I've had periods with long headaches, several days long. I now just focus on rest and relaxation as my main treatments. De-stressing helps me a lot, as does quietness and a darkened room for the worst parts. I will take pain killers but do so sparingly - usually a cocktail of them, as long as they're not the same class of drug.
It's possible to get rebound pain from painkiller use, where they stimulate further headaches, for example. This is why i take infrequently, perhaps just once a month or so. This despite having headaches at other times and not using them. |

Keep asking for a scan or ask to be referred to a neurologist
I had one and I've got small scaring on my brain they said its equivalent to if I was 72 not what you want to hear when your 45
I have had 10 different types of medication over the years now I have to have 31 Botox injections in my skull every 12 weeks they are horrible but stop me suffering every day Fingers crossed for you |
