In the great wisdom of USA, some states have decided it is now legal for students to carry guns at school

.

Despite the success of these gun-free policies, an increasingly extreme pro-gun movement in the USA is promoting legislation and litigation to force colleges and universities to allow concealed guns on campus. As a result, schools in Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Oregon, Utah, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin have now been forced in different ways to allow the carrying of firearms on their premises (i.e. campus grounds, classrooms, dormitories, or parking lots).

sounds good;

A further 10 states not including the above consider it fine for kids to take their guns to school as love as they are left in their car (wait a minute you twat, im going out to get my gun from car, call me that again when I have my gun)

.

A further 11 states, outwith the 20 above leave it for the individual Schools decide weapons policy

.

When Semi Auto handguns were legal in UK, I owned a .45 Colt Gold Cup, this would shoot straight through a 1/4 inch steel plate on practical shoots, same guns and larger calibre are now okay for kids to carry in class

.

Would you be happy for your kid to head of to school, college, university and sit in class with a firearm?

.

No I wouldn't. But then I wouldn't be ok with them getting shot/stabbed by another pupil who has gone off on one either.

I don't know what the answer is, but I don't think this is it.

I am working towards an fac myself.

Gun ownership isn't the problem. Lack of respect for your fellow man is.

the levels of fear towards their fellow citizen are getting out of control over there, there simply aren't enough attacks in schools to call it reactionary, it's adecision based on fear of their own imagination.

Southpark did it best with imaginationland 1,2 &3.

There was a protest at a Texas university recently where students arrived brandishing a range of sex toys. Apparently this particular uni prohibits them on campus but allows students to carry licensed concealed Handguns To the classroom.

My school banned the compass because we couldn't be trusted not to stick each other with them.

I am not sure they have thought this one through.

I'm a former firearms user, and still now shoot PCP air-rifles for rabbit control. I've been shooting since I was 12, and have competed at a national level. The US gun laws are ridiculous, but unfortunately driven by a very vocal lobby group who've twisted the Constitution to justify all sorts of weaponry.

Guns for sport or hunting can be justified, even in the US twisted logic a sidearm of personal protection size, a .22 for example, could be justified. A full automatic assault rifle, or high-power pistols, are not protection - they're for killing people. The whole US gun regs need rewriting to stick with the much-loved Constitution, but limiting the type of weapon and licensing properly.

In a liberal society 'need' is irrelevant. It's all about want.

I want a gun, so i get a gun. In a truly liberal society there is acceptance of this fact by all regardless of agreement.

for the sake of fairness.. i have to mention that full automatic guns are actually banned...

the problem is that a lot of semi automatic assault weapons are in affect now the same thing... for example the gun you see a lot in mass shootings is the AR15... it basically an assult weapon, but because its a semi, its legal

as one lawmaker in the last debate in the senate said... if you really need an assault weapon for hunting, you need to stick to fishing!!!

Of course I would, just think of when he gets annoyed and shoots someone, what a proud parent I will be......

To me this is stupid, thought up by paranoid people, trying to convince themselves they are doing the right thing.

I do hope this backfires in a major way, either the police being called to schools more often, or one of the responsible gun toting children, shooting themselves non fatally of course.

There is that word need again.

NEED IS IRRELEVANT in a truly liberal society.

Now if we all want admit what kind of governance we live under then you can start to justify rescteicting what people 'need'.

The biggest armed gang in America come equipped with semi automatic hand guns and long guns, tazers and pepper spray. They kill people for minor traffic offences and various misdemeanours. They are not accountable to anyone. They are of course cops. They are definitely exacerbating the situation in the states atm

And there in lies the true value of the 2nd amendment, and also is an indicator of how misunderstood the amendment is.

The police in almost every country have no oversight, no connection to the communities they serve and no incentive to work for the people.

Under that scenario you could argue that powerful personal weapons are needed. Otherwise what restriction is there on the police when it comes to say, protest control? Only the army? The lines between the two are blurred beyond recognition by now.

And yet the top arguments used by gun advocates are socialism, islam and "thugs". Completely ignoring who the real threat is and that the admendment already gave them the rights and tools they need

the problem is that the NRA which at first was a sensible, social conscience and liberal organisation has been hijack by the right wing and turned into what you see now...

there is absolutely a conversation that could be about sensible gun control measures that could be taken... again, how many guns does one person need? buying ammo from the internet, banning extended magazine rounds (in what situationd do you really need rounds of 30-50 bullets when a round of 6-10 wouldn't be sufficent)

there are measures that could take place and wouldn't impenge on peoples rights.... but they want no part of any conversation

Extended Magazines are still legal here in the UK (30+ rounds) never mind usa.

.

You don't even need a licence to purchase shells, primers, heads, powder or a press, its only when assembled that legislation is required

You need to look at the sponsors mate. You are sounding super left right now.

Everytime there is a speech about gun control, sales spike. The neo politic forum loves this. Both liberals and conservatives ( even prominent ones like the Clintons ) have ties to arms sales.

Both sides of the aile make stupid amounts of money from private prisons.

Biometric gun tech exists, but because of states rights and convulted legislation adoption by New Jersey( the state to put the leg forward) will automatically make all over guns illegal. The leg doesn't need to specify this but it was added anyway, specifically so it would encounter mass opposition. Once again this benefits both sides of the aile.

yes arms sales to the saudis for bombing the yemen from jet fighters is killing more civilians than the enemy be it a hospital or a school, wedding, on average six children a day are casualties and that itself is a breach of International law the real enemy hides behind walls of concrete in the city at the cost of the civilians and the uk help to contribute to this I,m sad to say.

Insane policy, but in a country obsessed with guns, sadly unsurprising. A scaled down version of the nuclear deterrent.

How do you stop gun crime?

It's pretty simple really, arm everyone so if a gun crime is committed, people can "defend themselves" by committing more gun crime!

A licensing system similar to this country's would be the way to go without a doubt. But of course you would get all the jim-bobs and bill-toms waving their six fingered hands in the air complaing about how it's their God given right to possess firearms and it's in the constitution and all the rest of it.

Simple fact is that if you are a decent, law abiding citizen with no criminal record, you have nothing to fear! If you are a shady character with a criminal record as long and as extensive as the great amazon trouser snake, you shouldnt be allowed a gun!

If i remember right you can't own a handgun in the UK anymore for the reason that there is no lawful use for having one.

Think there are still clubs in Ireland for target shooting

If memory serves wasn't it a court ruling by a case some deer shooter in Scotland brought because he considered it unsafe to put the deer out of its misery at close range with a rifle, so the judge allowed him to use a handgun for that purpose?.

Yawn! I'll stick to my clay pigeons thanks lol

There's a reason black powder has nearly died out, had a try of a .45 black powder rifle, wouldn't fire because it had rained once in the past couple of months and when it did fire you had no idea what you had hit because of the smoke! Lol
