Think auto trader and the like is your friend on this one just use your filters and it should come up with a fairly decent selection. Pick out the ones you like and Google reviews etc about them. I like the r32 golf's myself

What type of care do you want or need?

How much do you travel for work? It depends on mileage and whether you might benefit from a Diesel or Petrol

I would say the r32 golf although I think a lot of them come with the dsg semi automatic transmission. Manuals can be had, they're petrol, comfy (leather interior) and good for around 250 horsepower if I remember right! Possibly worth looking into

NW London

The Parkers website has Reviews And information for every make and model. It's probably worth looking on there.

London and France

"The Parkers website has Reviews And information for every make and model. It's probably worth looking on there."

Golf

Skoda RS Octavia

Seat Leon

( all roughly the same car, in effect)

All have option of DSG gearbox which is outstanding ( with or without paddles )

For a smaller one, the sporty Skoda Fabias are pretty good ( though they look horrid)

A Galaxy far far away

Forget a hatch and get yourself a 350z

Alternatively, an RS Megane, Golf V GTI/MK 4 R32 or an FN2 Type R.

All depends on what you like. I prefer NA to turbo and RWD, plus manual. I'm old skool

If you're wanting a hot hatch I'm presuming you want something fast.

With £8k you've got plenty to choose from.

with £8k you could buy a civic type R that's had a turbo/supercharger conversion and have silly amounts of power

Alternatively be uber original and get an ST

I'd be checking out a Subaru too, £8k will get you a nice one second hand

I would possibly steer clear of the FN2 type r if you value your spine. It was described by our Lord and saviour, Jeremy Clarkson, as being "stiffer than a corpse on viagra".

I've never had any experience with corpses, viagra, or any mixture of the two however, I have had experience of the FN2 and can completely back that statement up!

How is it on a day to day basis? I've got my heart set on either a 350 or 370 once my current car is finished with

Personally I'd look at a Jaguar, I know it's not a hatch, but they shift and they are comfy too
