So what is the generally accepted rule of the friend invite around here?

I've sent a couple to people I've had private message chats with as I would like to chat more and see if we get on.

I'd hate to cause offence by jumping the gun so how do you guys decide when a friend invite is appropriate?

Not sure if there's one to be honest. I don't accept any friends or verifications on my profile.

Friend invites without any chat I find to be rude especially when in our profile we ask to chat before sending one. I often think is it just to see your friends only pictures??

I think if you have been chatting it's perfectly acceptable to send friend requests, especially if you have an intention of hopefully meeting with them.

However ones which are sent without chatting first is to me not, i find it quite rude and makes me think whoever sent it is just after private pictures or wank material.

I generally have to have either met or plan to meet them imminently x

If I'm requesting then I ask first within the private message, accepting the person may say no or not yet. Only send the request once permission has been given.

I prefer the same in return. But that's just me and everyone's different.

My solution is

" Would you like to add me as friend"

If I'm added then good if not then good

If you have been chatting and they seem interested then sent a request.

Don't send them to someone who doesn't even know you exist

I ignore random friend requests and will sometimes block the sender, i do state this on my profile.

I only accept from people who i have actually met in person or we have been chatting and they ask if its ok to send one

I only have friends who I have met or chat to from the forums. I don't want a huge friends list full of people I'm never going to interact with. Any friend requests from people I've never spoken to are ignored. I currently have a long list of those.

The right time to send a friend invite is never. I just wait until I receive it from the other person, it's easier this way .

We ignore random friend requests. After we've been chatting it's OK if people want to send one, prefer they ask first. We always ask first.

I will only accept friend invites after we have met normally. There's been the very odd occasion where it's happened before but meeting was a dead cert anyway and arrangements have been made.

I tend to send one if it's looking likely we'll meet. Sometimes people accept, sometimes they don't.

All right, if the applicant is young, tell him he's too young. Old, too old. Fat, too fat. If the applicant then waits for three days without food, shelter, or encouragement he may then enter and begin his training.

I used to add people I chatted to on the forum or as other have said people I was interested in meeting, unsolicited friends requests have always been deleted

That's just rude.

The idea is that only those who really want it will put up with that treatment.

2 black t shirts

Don't generally send an invite before any contact. I've had just a couple this week without knowing them, despite asking people not to do it - it used to be tons and a pain.

Discuss with them your friends idea - including why you'd like it.

Just ask if it is ok to send an invite, every person will be different.

No matter how long we have talked our answer will always be the same no unless we are about to meet or have met.

I'll accept anyone as a friend. My friends only pics are not anything special. If people want to let me see their pics then that's fine by me. I used to only accept friend requests from people I'd met but stopped. My real friends go on my hot list.

I just sent one to someone I've exchanged messages with only to realise I missed in her profile that she won't accept it.

Tend to only add people who we are planning on meeting or have already met. Nothing in our friend pics that's much different to our public pics anyway.

Annoys the hell out of us when we get friend requests from people we've not even chatted to or from people who live 300 miles away.
