How much can you swallow?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

When you read a profile or talking on a forum. How much do you take with a pinch of salt. I'll be honest (and you'll have to take my word for it) I believe little and assume a lot.

Most are probably stretching the truth, and who can blame them. They are trying to stand out amongst others that are doing the same.

I think until you meet face to face, you will never get to know somebody online.

I'm new. This is my first day on the forum and I've only looked at one profile. I've seen things that are stretching the truth, in my opinion. but people do that don't they, so it doesn't bother me. Some really funny people, which chear me up no end. Some harsh people that I will try and avoid. But basically it seems like a nice atmosphere on here.

Everyone has a catch. It's just working out what that is and if it's something you can overlook. Body of Adonis, face of an angel, can't spell discreet vs. funny and witty, great body, massive hooter - for example.

I actually think you can glean a lot about someone from a combination of their profile text, the photos they've chosen and their messages. Obviously I need to meet them in person to be sure, but everyone I've met has always been as expected

I take it all with a huge pinch of salt! Even from those I've met. Maybe I'm just far too cynical!

And have to admit, opened this thread expecting to be about swallowing a banana whole! Lol

Read it and believe it or not. It's perception and attitude and stuff. Profiles are an advert. No one, for example, is gonna show a veri that says they are slightly better than a wank, are they?

I don't really take much notice of what men write; most don't write much anyway and when they do I give up on paragraph 3. I have a short, reading attention span at the moment, unless it's a best seller.

Forum wise over time I've seen some posters appear to have almost an alter ego, which is their true self who knows.

Profile / message wise I take with a pinch of salt, read between the lines & use my instinct.

I'm generally a very believing / trusting & a little naive person but have turned into a bit of a cynic since being on here.

"I'm more of a cunt in person on here I can choose to ignore the bullshit, in the real world it's to my face so I'm less tolerable. "

I take profile text with a massive pinch of salt since they're no more than a synopsis and don't bother reading veris unless I think I might find them funny. Messages make me less cynical; they can be edited etc. but they're almost as good as a dialogue for giving a real impression of someone over time. Forum posts? It depends if they're on the forums chatting generally or if they're using them as a way to pick people up. I fall into the former category so I tend to post as I think in a stream of consciousness style. I reckon it would be exhausting to constantly have to think about what to say and how to say it to achieve some hidden agenda on here.

I probably believe more than I should, have short profile and have only had one photo fabbed today (thank you).

Am I doomed?

Who knows?

I do find the fora hilarious at times, so that will keep me entertained until someone messages me for a social.

That is how it works isn't it?

Central

Look at the big picture and get less fixated on the trivial. Is someone generally decent and loving? If they are, I don't care that their photo may try to focus away from a bigger tummy than they'd ideally like to have. They've exaggerated a story - it doesn't matter.

It seems to be. A private more personal conversation is far and few between.

I feel like I'm sat at the back of the class shouting one liners. Getting a few chuckles, but at dinner I sit alone.

Have a look for group socials in your area and amble along to one?

You'll get verified and maybe meet some interesting people.

Walking into a club/social group as a single male doesn't speak to me unfortunatly. I suffer enough on here. To have it face to face is something I couldn't ignore. I'm sure everyone is friendly and welcoming, but so is this forum.

Fair enough, if you're happy at the back of the class shouting one-liners

I went to my first club alone and my first social alone. In fact I've been to every social alone and most of my club trips were by myself too. It really isn't that scary.

I can see why a club might be difficult but a social meet up in a pub is very different.

In all honesty, in the theme of the thread, I've been to two club nights so far. One to be vetted so to speak and another a social. I don't think I've ever been made to feel more welcome in a place I've been out to on my own. So nerves were very quickly put at ease.

I've met some interesting folks and learnt a bit about gin so I'm a winner without yet arranging a meet.

You've got loads of choice nearby and I'm guessing there's more non-club socials too.
