I've never had one but for it to work and stay as fwb would it be better if you had the sexual attraction and a personality match but you both wanted different things out of life due to age lifestyle etc |

It depends. As with all relationships, communication is important.
I saw someone every six weeks or so for four years. It was really uncomplicated. We didn't do anything that could be misconstrued as a date and we would go to hotels or clubs so there was never any personal space issues.
No drama at the end and we're still friendly.
The same might not be true with someone else where our personalities combine to create something more complicated.
