I've just cancelled Virgin and I've got until 28th Sep to find a new one. Currently paying 38 a month just for fibre it's ridiculous and the signal is terrible!
Any suggestions? Thanks |

"Talk talk Iv had no problems and only £20 a month for phone line, unlimited internet.
I've looked at talk talk but re_iews seem terrible? "
If we listened to re_iews all the time we'd never do anything!
I had worse customer care and service with Virgin |

Anyone that isn't virgin is using the old BT infrastructure.
The company provides "the last mile" and BT provides the rest so really it's a question of paying for a quality of service...I.e the ability for someone to resolve a problem and kick Bt in the gonads when something goes wrong.
Most smaller providers tend to suffer here as Bt are fabulously responsive in fault resolution...
Look at one of the larger brands, they all tend to have decent offers on. |

this.... this.... this....
and i would also see if you get a "speed" test done as well.... because the further you are from a telephone exchange, the slower the internet speed you will be able to receive... no matter the price you pay or what internet speed you are potentially promised

Talk Talk's Customer Service is shit. The actual product is ok though. It's just if you ever need to talk to someone the problem starts. I think they hire folk with attitude problems on purpose |

I think that ISP's vary in quality/reliability according to where you live and how close the nearest box on the street is.
For us, Virgin is a no-brainer. The slowest they can sell us is 100mbps, and because we've had TV and phone as well as internet with them since the NTL days we get a great deal. The service we get is excellent and I can count the number of lengthy (1 hour) outages on the fingers of one hand over a 15 year period. But we have fibre right to our doorstep, and a box over the road. That helps a lot with signal strength and reliability. In fact, typically we get 110% of the advertised speed.
Elsewhere you will find Virgin doesn't work so well because the fibre is down the street, or the nearest "street box" is some way away. |

you should talk to customer service before you switch. tell them you arent happy and are looking to switch providers
they will usually cut you some kind of deal if you are a longtime customer |

"Phone, tv and Internet all with sky.
It costs me like £126 a month? "
Wow! I hope you're getting movies and all the sports channels for that.
We pay about £50 a month with Virgin for phone, TV and 100mbps internet. With TV we have the Virgin XL package but don't subscribe to sports or movie channels. As a bonus, the company is not part-owned by Rupert Murdoch. |

BT - I haven't got a clue what I pay but it's unlimited, no throttling and it's 25mb so all's good. Yeah occasionally there is an odd drop here and there every couple of weeks but I still have a copper pair to the cabinet, some of which is overhead and that's 1.5km from my door, then fibre back to the switch which is about 5km away, so in the great scheme of things it's spot on and I have no complaints. |

The quality of your connection comes down to your locality. The distance between you and the exchange can create issues.
Pretty pointless comparing with others. You need to research line speed in your particular area.
I used to live a mile away from where I am now. I used to get disconnected every time it rained heavily. Now I have a very stable and fast connection. |

Sounds like your router, I had a similar problem with Sky, phoned them up the customer service was superb (which from reports is not usually the case) they sent me a new router, connectors and touch wood no problems since |

"Virgin XL no probs "
Same as that, best internet, price goes up at end of contract, phone up and tell them we're leaving, price goes down miraculously...happy days. Just try not to have any problems with them, as their customer service is akin to large turd. |

We have sky currently in the process of moving once moved I'm taking over so we cancelled as we are moving out of area they didn't put two and two together so I've got all the new customer benefits including a new hd tv.
If you look on money saving expert web site it tells you all about the deals.
It's costing me £48 per month for phone and Internet and the new sky Q and because I'm a new customer they knocked the set up and new dish charges off. |

With sky at the moment, its utter crap. It keeps dropping the signal and on my second sky hub, appalling customers service with people who do not know about anything.Contract up next month so will be looking elsewhere. |

Just swapped over to Sky a month ago. Nice and fast, but the signal is pretty crap, I've had to move the router to my bedroom which is in the back of the house to get a signal in all rooms. My old router was down stairs front of house and I got a signal near the bottom of my 150 garden, not anymore, about 20 foot from my house if the wind is right. And the connection keeps dropping and I have to reset.
Less than impressed. |
