Illegal Substances

As per an earlier post I am at a well know festival this weekend in a work capacity rather than a festival goer. The organisers have excellent operational policies on this matter and liaise closely with enforcing authorities. My question is should all substances be decriminalised and supplied under controlled conditions by approved outlets?

It seems that the use of narcotics has been about since Moses was a lad and from what have witnessed is alive and kicking.

Seems to me if the narcotics came from bone fide sources a lot of ancillary activity by way of criminality would be impaired?

It's an interesting idea. I don't use illegal substances but it appears that a huge amount of crime comes as a direct result of the manufacture, distribution, buying or selling of this stuff.

Could controlled legalisation reduce the crime? Possibly. Will it ever happen? Highly unlikely. If it were to happen, career criminals would find some other way to heap misery on the innocent folk.

I think possession should be decriminalised.

As a country we seem to be adopting ever more draconian stances on recreational drug use when many other countries are heading on the opposite direction.

If drugs had been decrimanilised years ago we wouldn;t have the ridiculous situation that we have now with legal highs whicj the police and medical proffessions hate as they are so unpredictable. As a rule of thumb doctors know how to treat someone that has taken too much MDMA, the police now how someone on cocaine is likely to react. With legal highs it's totally different yet it was the draconian laws that created the market for them

We were at reading festival yesterday, me and my partner were never searched on the way into the festival, we were both waved straight through. Whilst in the festival we both never saw a single police officer and only on 1 occasion when we were close to the front of the crowd when someone was letting a flare off saw a few security guards. We spent 8 hours in the main arena enjoying a great day and was smoking the finest stinky exodus cheese all day day without any question or bother. Was plenty of being smoked all around us also...

If it is legalised it would have to be controlled rigidly, therefore there might not be the effect you are after as it would have to meet certain regulations.
