A mate of mine for a Renault people carrier and the electrics keep going down on it which is bad but it's also got an electronic handbrake. I'd avoid it.

Try and stick to something in audi group, audi, volkswagon, seat. Can't go wrong

We had a Nissan Serena. Vannette lol. But served us well. Countless trips to Cornwall and the Continent. With trailer for surfing equipment. Paid about 4000 at the time but lasted 10 years plus.

almost forgot could try checking out an ex taxi, Peugeot expert. ran a similar van and apart from a slight starting issue which was easily resolved was pretty faultless.

They look fabulous with the amount of boot room too... maybe a bit out of price range but will look further. Thank you

Vitos are good. So are the Toyota imports, estima, previa. They are the only ones that you might get eight plus luggage and no dvt in.

Depending on budget - if you want cheap an old Toyota import will do but use a specialist dealer who knows what they are doing - some are 7 some 8 seats you need to check

Think they called previa or something like that, VW caper sort of shape They look very good and due to Japanese motoring age laws they're only a few years old, think Liverpool is the main import point for them.

I had a grand voyager. We converted it from 7 to 8 seats by removing the 2 single seats and replacing with a 3 seat bench seat...so we ended up with 2 3 seat bench seats in the back. Was a really comfy drive too and has sliding doors which are a god send in car parks.

VW Caravelle costs a bomb for what it is, but holds value well.

Hmm I wonder if I would be able to do that with mine, doubt it but might look into that. Sliding doors sound ideal

One of the things i loved about my voyager was that it was so versatile all the back seats were removable...and with the 2 bench seats you could flatten them and it was quite handy for "shenanigans"

I love the scenic I have now, had it about 6 years now and it's never broken down or anything, they are reliable cars, wish it was still not enough for us.

The phrase 'VW Audi group' and 'reliable' shouldn't be used in the same sentence.

A triumph of PR and marketing over real world reliability studies.

Either buy Japanese or Korean or a leftfield option a smaller Transit minibus or similar.

It really was fantastically spacious even with 8 seats. I loved it...but was too tight to spend much money on it as we only paid £1000 for it and had it 2 years with only minimal spending. If i needed the seats I'd have another.

The new t5 caravelles have very good reliability the early models were a bit prone to some faults, the late t4s offer very good reliability but are quite costly for a what 13 or 14 year old people carrier, look to pay around 8k for a good one.

If you want new and good value, Hyundai do the i800 with i think 8 seats versions, good long warranty as well but you'll still be paying nearly 30k maybe a 2 year old model still under warranty with high motorway milage might be a good buy!

The Vito is ugly, expensive and no more reliable than the rest.

The French stuff looks good, is cheap but will probably break in a few years.

The American stuff is tacky with really cheap plastics and there usually terribly thirsty.
