Moulting dogs!
How can 2 dogs loose the equivalent of a whole herd of the critters. GSD is loosing hair in big clumps (all her undercoat) and Weimaraner leaves a halo of fine grey hair every time she moves. Both dogs groomed every day but still have to sweep kitchen and vac the whole house every day.
Doing my head in!!! Grrrrr.
Love 'em really but.......enough girls.

I had a part labrador and she moulted loads, so i used to trim her fur really short come summer. i'm sure it was nicer for her too as she would've been much cooler. |

Last summwr I just clipped my Springer out with the horse clippers.
Got asked if she was an English Pointer and the neighbours stopped waving to me cos they didn't recognise the dog! |

How did you trim her? I'm thinking I might be investigated by animal rights or at least the RSPCA if I give the GSD a 'short back and all off'. No, don't even go there, she would just look silly as tempting as it is!

i just used people hair clippers, but i was used to using them so knew how to safely use them on my dog. be really careful off the nipple area and use guards if you do this yourself. You might need to also trim the hair with scissors first if it's really thick. It might not cost much to take them to a groomers and get them clipped there?
I did get reported to the rspca for shaving her completely bald when she had a bad reaction to fleas she got one time (it was the only way i could think of to get rid of the fleas straight away, and i di make her wear clothes so she wasn't cold), but the rspca took a look at her and could see she was ok. It was kind of embarrassing they came round but nothing more than that.
No-one ever reported me for just trimming her though. |

I have a lab and a husky. I've been absolutely crying at the amount of fur they are losing. It's fucking ridiculous. My clothes have to be individually hand cleaned before I do anything because they are covered in fur. |

My Labrador sheds hair everywhere, I have to get on my hands and knees and hand brush the carpet before I vacuum
My daughter has an American Akita
Dear God you could stuff a mattress daily with what she throws out, its like clumps of teddy bear stuffing everywhere |

They both have a table spoon of oil added to their food every day. Not sure that its so different to butter. Just increases the oil/fat in their diet. Doesn't seem to help.

"Doh!! Canines in the 'wild' moult. Natural in warmer (summer) temperatures!!
"
Thats true. I don't think they have concerns about hair on furniture and carpets though.
My aunt used to shave her show dogs (old english sheepdogs)
every spring like sheep. Their moulting wasn't enough to stop them over heating. |

Never heard of a Zoom Groom. I use a rubber mitt on the Weimaraner because of her thin coat and a 'wire' brush on the GSD to get through to her undercoat. Still remove sooo much from both of them. Never ending job (for the time being).
