Flying ants - yes I know we get them every spring/summer now but I think I have them living in my house!
I've googled and they're too dark to be pharaoh ants but can't tell if they're black garden (harmless) or carpenter ants (will eat my joists and wooden floorboards).
Anyone on here have experience of the little blighters or am I just going to have to get the Rentokil boys in? |

Get the pest control guys in. Hate flying ants. Hate them. Caught one in the house the other day and went bananas.
Still, it pays to be careful, so I would get the guys in. I think LCC does a cheaper service, but they might have closed it down. Worth giving them a quick call to find out. |

I ,'ve had garden ants in the house, I put down ant bait stations in the end, I tried powders and sprays to no avail.
I didn't know you could get ants that ate floorboards, that's quite alarming. If not sure get someone in as previous poster says. X |

Thanks Elcee. I've checked the LCC site already and although they mention the black and pharaoh ants they don't mention the carpenters. I think I'll give them a call tomorrow anyway.
I came home on Saturday to find literally hundreds of them all over my kitchen |

If they're pharaoh ants you'll be able to hear them coming in. Listen closely...they tend to "toot 'n come in"
I would suggest they're Carpenter ants though, because just like me, they long to be...close to you
Sorry, that was really shit! I have no serious advice |

the flying ants you get at this time of year are the young garden ants, they fly off to set up new colones, they don't do any harm, as in spread germs like fly's do.
ant traps on the floor in the corner of the kitchen works for us |

Ant traps and powder.. Don't kill them though!
They take the bait back to the nest and that kills them all.
Loads of advice online how to prevent them but once you have them you need to kill the nest off. |

Thanks guys.
I've got powder down at the main doors after the little critters tried getting in that way last year. These ones seem to be coming into the kitchen via open pipe work in a corner beside my top cupboards. I'll call into B&Q on the way home tomorrow and see what they've got in the way of poison/bait traps.
Howard - I think you've been at the laughing gas...you nutter! lol |

They are attracted to your kitchen by a food source.
Check your cupboards and make sure no foods are open.
They are especially partial to orange squash. Weird but true. They can smell it from miles away. |

I really don't think that we get carpenter ants in the UK.
If you found flying ants all over your kitchen when you came home then i'd hazard a good guess that there is an entrance/exit from their nest into your kitchen.
i.e. they've been living there a while. |

If you have quite afew of them in your house its likely you have a nest somewhere.
When younger and living at home still, we had seen a couple indoors and used ank killer. Came home one evening to find them everywhere in the living room and kitchen, i mean there must of been hundreds of them.
Got pest control in who eventually found we had got 2 under the kitchen units |

My fear is that they've set up camp in the void under my floorboards (about 3.5ft deep). The thought of them living under me makes my skin crawl...but might explain the food source for the massive spiders that I get |
