Good evening fabbers , friends and forumites .
I hope you all have had a jolly splendid day.
Pooch and I started ours with an invigorating walk. Despite what seemed like gloomy weather.
A fun time in the garden followed , clearing ouchie brambles. Why don't my veggies grow as vigorously.
Whilst walking this morning I listed to one of my favorite wireless shows Danny Baker on Five live.
He posited the question , is a hotdog a sandwich?
Our colonial cousins call a hamburger a sandwich, so is a hotdog , it has bread and a filling ?
Over to you guys

For me sandwiches are cold.....a heated sandwich becomes a toastie or melt etc and I think burgers and hot dogs are in that direction with their hot fillings.
But I've no expertise. Just an idea/opinion.
Hungry now. |

"But it's in a roll so I don't class it as a sandwich ..
But if you put butter and a filling in the same finger roll is that a sandwich ? "
Nope it's still a roll |

"Hamburgers aren't called sandwiches in America are they? I've never heard anyone on television ask for a burger sandwich. I need evidence of this. "

I've seen them listed as sandwiches in America.
Posh hot dogs are usually big tasty sausages in a brioche... and they're all technically sandwiches.

I shall do exactly that!,
Although it seems Americans call anything between two pieces of anything made from wheat,or a pizza base folded over, a sandwich. What we call rolls, they call sandwiches. |

It's only a sandwich if it's between two slices of Hovis |

It depends on many factors.
If it is a frankfurter type lips and arseholes sausage in a tasteless finger roll with chilly, ketchup, squeesy mustard etc. heaped on it no, it's a hot dog.
If it's a tasty English sausage cut in 2 so it doesn't roll and the fat can run out into the frying pan. between 2 slices of tasty bread with a hint of English mustard and some slightly salted butter, then it is a sausage sandwich. |

"A sandwich is a filling between two or more pieces of sliced bread. A hot dog is in a roll and is therefore a roll/bap/barmcake etc.
Thank you "
But there's also the open sandwich which has toppings rather than filings. |

That's because the Danish can't afford 2 slices of bread, |

If in bread not a bun or baguette I would call it a sandwich.
But if it is a bun baguette I would not.
Also to me subway is not a sandwich it is baguettes and a baguette to me is not a sandwich lol. |
