Is Chams losing its popularity

Chameleons in Darlaston has been our favourite ever since we started swinging, our home from home at times, we would rather be in there than having a drink at our local. But we have seen a marked difference in the amount of people attending the club over the last 6 months.

On a Friday, Saturday and Monday night you couldnt move for bodies. Not always a good thing, but it was absolutely jam packed. We went last night and whilst busy, there were nowhere near the amount of people that we usually see.

Both jacuzzis were in full working order but not packed, which is very unusual. Couples room only had 2-3 couples in it at one time all night, the mirrored ceiling room, only me and Chris played in there, I didnt seen anyone else in that room all night. The round "orgy" room, saw one woman with about 4 guys and that seemed to be it. There were private rooms still available, that was unheard of when we first starting going.

Midweek its very quiet, always was, but literally a handful of people. Was great one Wednesday night as at midnight there was only me, Chris and the staff in there.

Do you think the scene is changing in general and thats why there's a marked decline of numbers at the club, is it just this particular club, are all other clubs packed around the country, or are people giving up the clubs and having one to one meets instead.

Have you considered the failing economy?

Job losses. General depression. Closing businesses. Rising prices. Fractured families?

Are you going on May 1st ?

Yes thats what Chris said, the recession has had a difference. We also go to Abfabs in London, and its very busy in there, with a different clientele. To be honest I have no idea how much it is for single guys to go to the club, as a couple it isnt expensive, certainly cheaper than a night out in a nice restaurant.

Im not sure about the 1st May, would certainly be great but Sundays are usually not great for the OH's work schedule.

No I dont believe its down to kids breaking up, its been this way for a good six months.

Its a great club, with a great atmosphere and I certainly prefer it not so packed like sardines in a tin. Its more likely to be financial. Ive seen a difference in the numbers of single women too, and they get in for a very nominal fee. But then if theres a decline in single guys, women tend to be jumped on far worse than if there was an abundance of men, which will put women off - vicious circle really.

I think all clubs are hitting hard times, people just cant afford to go as offen as they used to

As for answering the question, i personally dont think chams is anywhere near as good as it was years ago, even when its busy there seems less people playing than there used to be

I still think its a good club, mondays is nowhere near as busy as it was when it was only on once a month, or even when it was on every other monday, and saturdays seems to be more a social gathering of couples, i know everyone goes for their own reason and thats not a moan its just a observation and answering a question lol

Yes have noticed the declining numbers...for me going was a treat...and given the increases in the costs of living..price rises in everything..especially petrol...and potential jobs cuts...for me treats such as Chams...are probably the first things to go when tightening my belt...

For me, I did have a 'partner' to go with regularly but now I dont. I just cannot aford the travel costs so can only really go to arranged parties if I bring a 'friend' and I'm too scared to go by myself shame as I enjoy going to Chams

all the above and possibly one other thing...

chams use to stand out as this mythical only one outstanding club.... maybe people are now staying closer to home, and local clubs are now improving...

for example... scotland now has CJ's... so alot of socts stay up there... the north east has club f.... and you are now beginning to get more people staying here, plus people coming from other parts... london has abfabs, yorks has la chambre and A&G, the north west was always stacked, east anglia has tease....

so where the midlands was blessed and everyone had to go there... the regions are beginning to improve and people are staying closer to home

The recession is hitting all the clubs i go to. People who went twice or three time a week are going less to save money and traveling costs. Hard times are here.

You ask how much it is for single guys - even as a full member I have to pay £30 per visit! Due to lack of work since xmas I can only attend now and again - and over last six months on monday nights there has only been a couple of dozen people there!

With various clubs having opened over the last couple of years, combined with the recession and increased travel costs, it is only understandable that Chams might be starting to suffer with footfall.

They have had it good for years, now people have far more choice.

Thank you for answering as I know you are a regular at Chams and know it from old. I have only been going since last November and Ive noticed a big difference. It wont be noticable to people who only go occasionally, or go when a big social is organised. But if you go regularly, when Chris's work is normal we were going twice a week (god that sounds bad doesnt it), but you definitely notice the difference. I dont really know why, but its definitely changed and the vibe is slightly lacking.

Sometimes its all sorts of factors. For me Travel (commute) costs, entry to the clubon the day/night, accomodation costs - all these are factored as I'm sure most people do.

I don't necessarily believe Chams is losing its popularity, but possibly other clubs (closer to the individual on the day?) May work out more financially viable?

I've been to AbFabs a fair few times (Fridays as well as Saturdays) but admit Chams is still miles ahead as far as atmosphere goes

havent been for ages and ages.

Last was a bbw social .

I dont have transport and its to expensive to get there under my own steam so ...dont go.

But. always have a great time when i do go.

I think the number of good clubs around now will tell a marked difference on those going.

Lots more choice.

Maybe nick needs to start doing some promotional nights...

I think Granny is right - the economic "feel" is not encouraging extravagant behaviours and I find that a few swingers turn to home entertainment these days... But also the unseasonally hot weather may make people want to spend time outside?

All clubs and male saunas as well seem to have decline in numbers over the last few years

I fully agree with Granny on this one that the economy and job losses/short time plays a big part

I don't think it has anything to do with a decline of the scene

As judging by the increase in numbers on the swinging sites i feel people are just keeping it at home rather than clubs xx
