Where is North West?

Jump to: Newest in thread

Whitehaven

Just about to log off for tea, but thought I'd throw this in and see what people think.

I often see people listed as north west, then see they are 100+ miles away!

I'm on west Cumbria coast, where does being from North West actually start?

Any where can be north west if you set off from a point south east of there.

This is true! I've recently moved and was under West Midlands, now I'm only 15 minutes up the road and under east Midlands, I swear it's radius is about 400 miles

Can i also add this to the mix....

Northern Ireland. Over in my neck of the woods, we also refer to parts of County Londonderry/Derry and County Antrim as "the north west". Some put this on their profile too. Would also explain distance too.

Its quite easy to define the north west.

It starts at the northeast tip of wales and follows the Welsh border south to to where Cheshire (in NW) meets Shropshire (in midlands), turns east following the Cheshire border till it meets The Peak District National Park where it follows the line of its border to Matlock where it turns north and follows the Pennine watershed to the Scottish border.

I think the general bbc rules are anywhere north of Watford are north then if you are West of that then they class you as north West. Anywhere east of that is newcastle and nothing exists anywhere in between.

North west includes north wales, Cheshire, Manchester, some parts of Derby, Liverpool Southport, Blackpool, Lancaster, Cumbria!

Derby isn't that big a city to exclude the southern bits, like Littleover etc. Your range could include parts of Staffordshire too, which meets Cheshire, Derbyshire and more.
