Hello Lovely Peeps,
I think that I have finally lost my mind.
Yes I currently have a dead cat in my car.
So I was driving to work this morning, running late for a conference call that I was hosting when I spotted a cat on the side of the road.
I pulled over to check if it was dead or just hurt (I couldn't leave anything to suffer), unfortunately it was dead.
So I went to get my shovel out of the boot to move it off the side of the road, but then I felt really sad for the owner not knowing what had happened to their cat and all the worry, I hsve 2 cats that I adopted last year and I would be heart broken if they didn't come home so I decided to take it to the vet to see if its chipped so the owner can be notified.
The problem is that I had to get to work so will need to go later and now I have a dead cat in the boot of my car.
Have a gone completely bonkers?

Awww bless you that's such a sweet thing to do. Go to the vet after work, hopefully they will be able to track the owner for you. I hope it's not going to be too hot where you are though X |

It's a nice thing to do knitter, I would do the same.
Trust me though in this weather & the abundance of flies around do not leave the cat in the boot of your car! |

If you get pulled over by the rozzers on the way home, you will probably make the news.
And finally, a lady who was pulled over by the rozzers in a routine check was at first suspected of being an unlicensed cat embalmer, however, after she explained the presence of the deceased cat and several friends had (grudgingly) vouched for her sanity, she was let off.... |

Also the thought of you having a shovel in your boot scares me. |

That's very thoughtful, I no longer own pets however I'd like to know the fate of any of my pets,
Hope the vets can figure out who's it is..
If there's no owner you might be left with disposing of puss..

Did you find the cat locally to you?
If you're on a Facebook group page it might be worth putting a post up on there. Someone might see it who knows someone etc etc etc..... |

How many hours is that going to be there for? Body left at room temperature 18 degrees will start to decompose after 3 days. It's 21 degrees outside here dunno what it is with you, it will be warmer in your boot.
What's it wrapped in? It's gonna be secreting liquid from it's nose and mouth the gasses inside it will make it swell, heat is gonna speed this up. You need to to get that out of your boot or wrap it in plastic and keep it cool. Honestly I've cleaned up after many dead bodies. Death isn't clean. |

I know of people who found a cat RTA to post info on a Missing Cats page on social media and the owners were able to make the connection
Not very nice situation but at least they know what had happened to their kitty |

Your best bet is to ring your local vet and explain the situation, you may be able to take it there. They can check for micro chip, and hopefully council will pay for cremation. |

All legal and the bodies were long gone before we got there! I used to be a crime and trauma scene cleaner, mainly elderly people that had passed away but not been discovered for a week or sometime longer. Do you know if you die in your sleep in bed you put yourself back in the foetal position. Seen many mattresses and the outline is there and you can see they curled up. |

That's not true, I have done coroner's removals of dead bodies, none of the ones I picked up who died in their sleep were in the foetal position. Some I picked up had been dead for some time, up to 3 weeks, none of those were elderly. |

Dont worry Im finishing at 3pm and taking the cat then. The car park is cool as its in a basement.
The cat is wrapped in a dress that was in the boot to be taken to the charity shop but I did put a plastic bag under it as i didn't like the idea of putting it in a bag.
Yes I keep a small shovel in the boot of my car I thought everyone did |

Not gonna argue the toss, I'm not a coroner or have any medical training at all. I just remember what I've seen. Almost every bedroom job you could see the outline of the body where it had melted and been absorbed by the bed linen, was always in the curled up position. Just little observations I made, along with suicides women were always the tidiest. Men would walk the whole length of the house where *most* females stayed in the bathroom or one room. |

I have a stray snowshoe that I have been feeding for about a month now. He's really cute and friendly. Been meaning to take him to a vet because a cat that expensive should be chipped but I haven't had enough hours in my day.
I think I'll also be heartbroken to see him go. |

No you're not bonkers. That was a kind and sweet thing to do
I was walking home from the pub one night and saw a cat on the side of the road. He'd been knocked down and was still alive. Only one man who passed helped me.
By the time I got the cat home he had died. He stayed in the garage overnight and I buried him in the garden the next day.
There's no way I would have kept walking and left him there, like some other people did. |

It's heartening to find people showing this kind of compassion .... thankfully we've never'not known' what's happened to our cats but so many people never find out. Fingers crossed the cat's chipped and/or its owner has already enquired there.
Thank you

I agree with this. I've seen numerous programmes on animal welfare and the British appear to be some of the best when it comes to protecting animals.

Why is it weird to have a shovel in the boot of my car ?
Oh it's my humour! Wasn't trying to be rude or anything...
You may have a shovel in you're car for a variety of reasons... Work, off roading, snow, picking up dead animals to name but afew "
Haha I was kidding it is a little strange bit I do use country backroads alot so there is alot of road kill and sometimes it needs to be moved |

Rolo - a fine name for the poor little fella. Condolences given to his people and a nod to the woman who enabled them to gain closure. |

Ok, take photo of kitty. Place kitty in a plastic bag and pop in the deep-freeze.
Location and photo of kitty can be used on some kind of local social networking site or local press... vets maybe?
Sooner or later someone will come along to collect their pet.
