Originally I thought this was tongue in cheek.. guess not.

I know it seems little unfair on those of us who treat everyone equally. But we can't account for the mentality or actions of everyone. It doesn't quite compare to what those on the other end if the various isms have to out up with I'm sure.

As a young straight white male I've never had it so bad. But that's only because things are getting better for everyone else.

Let's not begrudge those who haven't had it as good as us their equality eh?

It would be great if both genders were treated equally but they aren't.

Women are generally paid lower & have to work harder to prove themselves in the same field as their male counterparts.

Yes and this is about the only place, and just look at the moaning about it.

This place is just about sex.

Imagine if men had been lower paid, with fewer opportunities in nearly every area of life, (i.e. in things that matter just a tad more than getting laid), throughout history.

Probably to try to encourage under-represented groups and to try to achieve a better balance of people in more senior positions.

I'm in two minds about positive discrimination but sometimes action does need to be taken to redress imbalances.

When those imbalances have existed over a long period of time, a certain way of thinking can exist in company culture that can make change difficult.

Programmes to bring more diversity into senior roles can help shake things up a bit.

There are programmesspecifically to encourage woman to study STEM subjects too, for the same reason.

It's a pretty good quote I must say. And very true. A lot of men were raised to believe that they are stronger and better than women, so it stands to reason for them to jump to the conclusion that it's now sexist towards men. I won't deny that sexism towards men does exist. I have seen it. Like real sexism. But sexism towards females is more common and can be more dangerous

I think that the best person for a job should be the one to get it.

However, I also know that often white males tend to think that another white male is the best person for the job so an equally qualified woman, or even a more qualified woman, wouldn't have a chance.

It's necessary to bring diversity into more senior roles to break those sorts of patterns.

Yes, men can suffer from gender discrimination too.

I particularly feel for fathers separated from their child's mother sometimes. Although it's getting better, slowly, the system is heavily biased towards women.

However, men don't experience anything like the discrimination and limitations faced by women in most areas of our lives, on a daily basis.

In my experience (female here) the abuse usually comes from other women."

Yes. As they were raised with the mentality that women can not do that. While men can. Still counts as an act of sexisms. Raising the two to believe that men can do things women can not

Not saying that all women should want to get married and have kids but the ones who do maybe if they stayed home as they used to do then there would be more jobs for men and less trafic on the roads.

Years ago they only had men news readers, now there are too many women.

Or,,,,,the women could go out to work, driving flash cars, playing golf and having lavish expense account lunches and overnight stays with their 'secretaries',while the men stay home to clean the house,on their knees scrubbing the floor and having my dinner on the table when I get home,,,,

lt has been illegal to pay anyone less for the same work for decades. Men tend to choose better paying, more dangerous and more unsociable hours. The is why over 90% of work place fatalities. Men make up the vast majority of the homeless, graduate university less than women and are far more likely to be the victim of serious assault.

Women still have issues though. We need to stop looking at this through the traditional lense imo.

For those accustomed to privilege, equality can feel like oppression

Ooo, I like that. May use it in future

I heard it elsewhere, it's not mine.

I'm not sure who it is attributed to though.

Yes, men can suffer from gender discrimination too.

I particularly feel for fathers separated from their child's mother sometimes. Although it's getting better, slowly, the system is heavily biased towards women.

However, men don't experience anything like the discrimination and limitations faced by women in most areas of our lives, on a daily basis."

That works both ways, there are lots of mothers whose kids live with their fathers. X

You have male privilege, whether you accept it or not.

You have more opportunities than women in the same circumstances as you, whether you realise it or not.

You claim to be an 'intelligent, down to earth guy.'

To be quite frank, you haven't got a f***ing clue.

Just because laws exist to prevent something from happening doesn't mean that the injustice magically disappears.

How are you defining 'serious assault'? Are you including offences under the most recent Sexual Offences Act, or are you classifying sexual assaults in a seperate category?

Men may 'graduate university' less than women, but more men than women go to university in the first place.

Does your statistic on 'workplace fatalities' include the armed forces? Until very recently, women were forbidden to participate in front-line or combat roles, meaning that female KIA figures were practically zero.

Unfortunately, I have encountered a large number of women who seem to view 'women's rights' or 'female liberation' as a conspiracy created by whinging, victim-obsessed lefties, and who honestly believe that women were better of without the right to vote, work, marry the man of their choosing, own property, represent themselves in court, expect equal treatment before the law, or go outside without a chaperone.

despite the legislation there is still pay inequality today, some of the points you quote are slightly out of context..

are you suggesting a way of balancing out inequality is for more women to die in the workplace? Surely the goal across the board is to reduce all deaths and serious accidents in the workplace?

also yes men do have higher rates of suicide but that's partially down to the male of the species being far less likely to seek help, despite its seriousness its not really a valid point in relation to the thread..

again the education point is a much more complex issue given both males and females start at the same level within whatever status they are in, again not really a valid point in relation to the thread..

if you want to be more inclusive and give a balanced view how about the level's of domestic violence being massively higher against women..?

etc..

I enjoyed the back pay when it eventually came.

"Men may 'graduate university' less than women, but more men than women go to university in the first place."

And maybe women work harder, in general, than men, knowing that they'll have to excel in order to stand any chance of success in the workplace.

Women have to be consistently significantly better than men in order to earn the same opportunities.

I agree with that. A lot of the girls I knew as an undergrad were busting seemingly impossible hours, especially those who were STEM students, lawyers or medics.

I wasn't praising the fact that more men than women go to university; I was simply making that point to show how meaningless it is to say that 'more' women graduate than men.

Take a hypothetical Uni which has 1,000 male students and 800 female students. Of these, 850 men and 720 women get degrees.

In terms of success rate, the male students have an 85% chance of graduating, while the female students have a 90% of graduating.

As such, it could be claimed that 'more' women than men are graduating from that university. However, in terms of actual numbers, the male graduands still outnumber the women by 130.

Actually none of that is true. The everyday sexism project is a joke.

Oh? What makes you say that?

lt has been illegal to pay anyone less for the same work for decades.

You truly are the product of a different time. And still stuck there, wanting to drag everyone else back there.

It's bad enough when men have these attitudes but it's particularly sad when it's a woman.

You evidently don't believe in 'complete equality.' If you did, you wouldn't be making idiotic statements like 'no economist takes the pay gap seriously,' or misusing statistics to paint feminism as some kind of 'anti-male conspiracy.'

I was a STEM student. I've a degree in Chemistry from a Russell Group university.

I'm not disagreeing with anything you said, I was just adding that (based on my experience) a lot of women work harder, because we know we have to be significantly better than the men in order to have the same opportunities.

I'm now doing a Masters in Computing.

It's hilarious how some, (not all, thankfully), 20-something men think they are experts on the sex discrimination that women experience, or, apparently, imagine we experience.

It must be all that life experience and experience of living as a woman...oh, wait...

How a 20-something man can honestly think he can tell a 40-something woman about the barriers she does or does not face (and has or has not faced) is beyond me!

As for saying one has to look at the facts, and to "go and google", without having any idea what the facts actually are...

A report by the Office for National Statistics late last year found plenty of statistics to suggest the pay gap is indeed real and is far worse in the UK than in most other European countries.

There may be more everyday respect in interactions between women and men as compared to the past but we live in a patriarchal society that is based around man, there is so much written about this it is beyond theory.

Therefore because we live in a patriarchal society it beggars belief that women could be equal. Of course so many things have changed in law yes my life is better than my grandmothers etc. But one area springs to mind stats are abundant on this that as soon as a woman becomes a mother her potential for increased income and promotion decreases instantly. Whereas a mans potential changes not a dot. Anecdotally from my own life I have 2 friends who have become top senior management, one in a very male dominated industry they are the absolute exception.

I think you're making women sound a bit feeble here. If a woman in the workplace believes she's not receiving equal pay, it's up to her to do something about there and then. There are clear and easily accessible mechanisms in place to report inequality in the workplace. If she just accepts it and works harder to overcompensate, she's not doing anyone any favours, least of all her gender.

Thankfully, very few such women on this site. However, there is another site I use, and on which I have received abuse from several 'socially conservative' women in America.

Basically, they told me in no uncertain terms that Feminism is 'a load of shit,' and that it was nothing more than a conspiracy by the Liberal-Socialist media in alliance with 'Women's Studies' Departments to subjegate 'real men.'

IOW, they are a bunch of steaming Rednecks.

I've just stumbled across this thread. I've been in Fab rehab all day!

I don't have much to say really. Why? Well there isn't much to say really. In society today, there is not equality. Not just between men and women but in many other aspects of life. If anyone disagrees with this. Then they need to take off the blinkers, open their eyes and look around them. Inequality is everywhere around us. Saying that, as a society we must continue to educate people. Things are going in the right direction but it is a long road. Prejudices are engrained into many people from a young age and it will take time to open peoples minds to what is right and just. It is the responsibility of us all to take a stand and point out injustices as we see them and i hope that we all do. The human race has many flaws and time will tell if we are strong enough to correct them.

Now....did someone have the kettle on?

I'd swap your "hardship" for the discrimination I face in a nanosecond.

You need to back that up with evidence though.

You don't want to accept evidence so I'm not going to waste my time.

You're one of the hard done by crowd, bitching about the little you feel you've lost as things have become more equal. Slightly more equal. We're way off actual equality.

Like I said, I'd swap your opportunities for mine in a heartbeat.

I don't need evidence for that.

''Like I said, I'd swap your opportunities for mine in a heartbeat.

''

l'd assume anyone, male or female, whould find making a statment like this about any stranger ridiculous

You can assume what you like.

You have male privilege, whether you accept it or not.

You have more opportunities than women in the same circumstances as you, whether you realise it or not.

You're poorly educated on the subject and, apparently, you are resistant to hearing the truth.

Perhaps you should Google."

To me this is would be called bigoted if applied to any other demographic. Saying "women work harder" can be paraphrased as 'men are lazier than women'. It would be racist is you said 'blacks are lazier than whites'... So why isn't it considered sexist when applied to the male gender? This is the hypocrisy that is referred to.

Can't reply to everything just now. In the bath.

That is in the Government sector and in the commercial sector. If you own your own company and you are self employed, you are allowed to set your own rates. Aslong as it is above minimum wage, you can pay people whatever you want. Just because it is against the law for companies to do it, does not mean other people do not do it. I see it happening all the time in my industry and it's unfair. So look into it more before saying it does not happen

I'm not branding people. I am just stating that women do have it worse off when it comes to sexual activity. Don't get me wrong, it is wrong that a guy has to lie about sleeping with someone as not to be ridiculed, but a woman has to lie about not sleeping with someone. And a lot of the time, they fear for saying no to sleeping with someone as there are reports of women being shot or attacked because they said no to a man. Not saying it doesn't happen to men, but they aren't being publicised as the media works on what is in the public interest at that moment of time

The point atm is to break down all the inequal thoughts that society has atm so that in the future they cease to exist. At this time, the main worry is how females are treated in workplaces and even in every day situations. And don't get me wrong, there are unequalities towards men too, like the fact that during custody wars, it's more likely to go to the mother and the father is only given weekends, which is wrong

Your sweeping generalisations only help to undermine any point you are trying to make and fit perfectly with a heteronormative privileged world view.

"Jesus I didn't realise everybody was so serious !

And just a bit of info !

Women in my work can only do certain jobs (sexism) because the boxes might be to heavy for women ! They are 6-16kg for fuck sake

Anyway only a man can do the job!

"

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

There seems to be an increase of men feeling insecure in who they are decrying that they are oppressed by women and retaliating by being even more sexist than ever.

Seeing it so much on here has been putting me off meeting over the last year.

I'm no loss but if others feel as I do...

would pay it no heed, pretty sure with some it's down to their own insecurities, other's it may be that they don't like that women on here by and large can call the shots with whom they meet and that as evidenced on a regular basis leads to some shattered conceptions and damaged ego's..

other's just need to be able to blame someone rather than take a look at themselves..
