I'm on a cruise in the Thames and we're sat at a lock. I don't get locks - what's with the different water levels, why not just have them open and have the water the same level? Am I being blonde? Can someone help me understand |

locks are mostly for climbing hills and descending hills they allow for the management and flow of water ensuring a canal never runs dry or to get to swallow to allow boat traffic to pass easily along the canal . |
