I am guessing that we will have a million thread otherwise... so how about we keep them in one place....

plus its nice to keep it a chronicle of what happened on what days and how we felt... it will be nice to come back and have a read from time to time....

so anyway.... day 1.... a few medal chances... mens cycling road race, judo and swimming....

let the games beginning!

spoil sport..... i am watching the cycling this afternoon.... it is a tricking course with 3 huge climbs with on a loop at the end....

for those people in the cycling know... imagine a one day classic course at the beginning, with 3 proper tour climbs at the end....

you don't get theses....

that with 5 man teams and no team radios means people have to be good cyclists and smart....

its brilliant for the morning and afternoon events... cycling, rowing, boxing, judo ect as they will all be in evening prime time....

BBC4 is a confusing location for it though.

The swimming has the potential to affect work so I may not see the finals.

They're not good enough.

Ben Proud and Duncan Scott qualified for individual 100m freestyle but just barely. I don't think GB will be able to win the 4x200m free as well.(they have a team and will be competing as reigning world champion).

If people prefer football, start your own thread.

I thought the road race route was totally Crap tbh and someone should be held accountable for what was a very dangerous course.

Overall I have been disappointed with the coverage and the games as a whole.

But that's probably because after 2012 everything was going to be an anticlimax.

Really pity Hannah Miley as she missed the bronze by the narrowest of margin.

GB might get a silver (hopefully) through Siobhan O'Connor in 200 medley, a silver/bronze through Jazz Carlin in 800m free and fingers-crossed silver/bronze from Fran Halsall in 50m free.

Can't really see any other potential medal but I'm happy if they just perform well. Waiting for the 100m free to see Ben Proud's and Duncan Scott's form to see if GB's 4x100medley has any chance of a medal.

i actually disagree..... the course itself was fine, actually it made for some really good racing and in the end produced some great finishes... the problem was the final descent and the drop offs on the sides..... if they put proper barriers all the way down that descent there is no way the cyclists can take the risks......

And how the feck do they judge any of those without watching slow motion replays?

Should they not judge the tight trunk packages as well?

Think it's to do with keeping their body temp up so they can remain supple for their twists and turns.

Only three of the team of five can compete this time. So for Team GB, Louis Smith and the captain are sitting out.

Not trying to be a troll but the highlights of the women's rugby NZ vrs GB are up on the beeb website and it's an embarrassing standard of rugby from GB. It's what I would expect from 16 - 18 year olds frankly.

They're saving Smith for the Pommel Horse, I assume, but how does that fit with the three thing. Are they choosing different threes for different rotations?

Ladies rugby is still fairly new to be fair and if they are in a final playing at that level then at least they are on a parr with other great rugby nations. The more exposure and support the sport gets the better and better it will become.

7's is a very different game to the usual one.

I just find it odd that they couldn't find 7 players who can play at roughly the same standard we see from England ladies (current world champions). Some of them clearly don't understand the full rules. Trying to play from offside positions and the captain starts arguing with the referee about a tackle in the air saying "she didn't tip her" - irrelevant, you can't tackle someone in the air, basic rules!!

as soon as it went 7 vs 5 it was all over... the 1st yellow was absolutely justified... the 2nd was harsh as the kiwi basically jumped into her hands.. but technically its a tackle whilst the person is in the air.....

i know why that is a yellow... but its one of the things with the new law that frustrates me.....

I do know what you mean about the second yellow but the rules are clear.

Even the first try is piss poor defending. Look at the full back, when you are closing someone down on that side of the pitch you line up your inside shoulder to their outside shoulder so you will get your body across theirs and have your head in the right position for a high impact tackle. The danger is of course that they then step inside you but that just means you have to re-adjust your stance. Irrespective, you close down the easiest route for them first (inside you) and then worry about the more difficult step inside (outside you).

The full back does the bloody opposite and the NZ lady basically runs in a straight line unchallenged.

Well 7's is an incredibly tough game physically so I could forgive their fitness levels being lower as amateurs. You do make more mistakes when you are tired but not the kind of mistakes that I'm ripping on them for.

More poor defending and stupid penalties. The captain was yellow carded for the most obvious deliberate knock on I've ever seen. In Canada's 2nd and last tries they just literally walked through the GB defence.

My alarm went off this morning at 5.45am and i only made it into bed at 2.45am!! I was literally on my way to bed when i had the bright idea of checking what sport was showing on the red button. Volley Ball!! Twelve six foot +ers from Russia and Korea. The match was amazing! Also helped that there were four hotties on the Russian squad! That aside, i'm a new fan of the sport. Well the womens anyway! Great stuff. I would recommend to anyone to watch it.
