That's Newyork flights booked! Aerlingus 800.00 for 2! Think that's a good deal? Flights to Dublin then Newyork!
How do you manage on a 7.5 hour flight? I'm thinking taking night nurse before boarding? |

"7.5 seems fairly manageable actually. Stick a movie on, have some food and maybe an hours kip and you'll be landing in no time. Have a good un "
Flown to Cuba think that was 6 hours, absolute nightmare! See I'm tempted to ask the doctor for some sleeping pills but don't fancy having that on my medical history! |

Well i`m a night nurse and am sure i could make you sleep
Anyway when we do long haul we normally get minimal sleep the day/night before, Take a black out eye mask and ear plugs.. |

"Probably avoid alcohol...being d*unk on an aircraft can get you cable-tied to your seat (not in a good way) and arrested when you land...xx"
won't be drinking in Newyork, might never go again so don't want to be rough! I'd be livid if the person sat next to us was d*unk! |

I recently had I teeny tiny 3 hour flight sat next to the child from hell.... (not my own). Up/down/jumping/banging/SINGING/punching/pressing/wriggling.... Felt like I just had a 12 hour flight!!
Hope your seat mates are cool and relaxed! |

I usually go for a wank in the toilets when we are over Greenland , just about halfway across the pond and is a good way of stretching the legs and getting rid of some hormones that build up and also relieves the boredom...... |

Pah 7.5 hrs
Piece of piss
Try 12hrs on a national express coach driving from London to North of Scotland with a two year old child in toe.
Followed by 18 hrs on ferry to shetlands via Orkney In the middle winter during a horrendous storm!!! |

Cuba was 9 hrs for us. I doze, read, listen to music. I used to take diazepam but have got over my fear of flying now |

I have done flights to Australia and New Zealand
Lots of water
Earplugs or your own music
Watch a film etc
And sleep
Oh and I turn down lots of the food because on long haul they feed you frequently to keep you in your seat and pass the time and it makes me
Enjoy ! |

Yes it's quite strange I've realised this feeding phenomenon on long haul. They seem to feed you at every time zone passed. It is very beautiful flying into a sunset though and watching the flight deck cameras. Especially when going over beautiful landscapes.
I was flying over the Middle East Iraq etc when the gulf war broke out and our flight path changed considerably due to air space restrictions. Was pretty scary I must admit to be told this over the speaker system x |

new york isn't as long as that....
6.5 ish hours out..... 5.5 hrs back with the jetstream.....
on the way out just try and stay up and stay awake as long as possible...
on the way back thats why i always catch a redeye and sleep... reduces jetlag |

It is no problem flying west as you just have a "longer day." Depending on the aircraft/carrier you will have on board entertainment and just take your Kindle/book as well and the time will "fly."
Coming back is a different story as you lose five hours of the night during the flight and also the flight is generally about an hour shorter because of the jet stream. This means that say your flight leaves at 8pm (local) it is really 1am and by the time you are airborne and have had your food it is 2.30/3am and then you will be landing and 7am/8am so you are only going to get about three hours of broken sleep. |

It's a killer traviling east, your body gets messed up you might aswell not conform to any time whilst in the air as it changes frequently. X

Over the rainbow, under the bridge |
I fly to Australia every few years and that is basically 3 long hauls one after the other.
Set your watch to the local time where you are headed. Try to get some sleep at an appropriate local time.
Drink plenty of fluids but avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
Try to eat at a time appropriate to local time (airlines often serve food like this anyway).
Take some time to exercise. Cabin crew on long haul don't mind you moving about. I often stand around near the gallery to stretch my legs.
Use good ear plugs and the sleep mask provided to help you sleep.
Wear comfortable clothing. Nothing too snug.
If you can, a day or two prior, try to change your routine to New York time.
Have a great time! |

Set your time to your destination on take off. No need to change it as you go along. |

It is boring, I get bored after a couple of hours and I can't watch film after film. I read and try and sleep, being served food and snacks fairly regularly takes the monotony away a little.
This year I really am dreading my 12 hour flight to Hong Kong. |

That's a relatively easy flight length. Think of it as two films and a meal or a day at the office.
London to New Zealand is long haul. |
