The 2016 Rio Olympics are underway! The football tournament has started today ahead of Friday's official opening ceremony.
Sweden v S Africa ladies kicked off at 5pm UK time.
I can't believe it's been 4 years since the amazing London games, what events / athletes are you looking forwards to watching the most? |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
"Hussein Bolt "
Who he?
London 2012 got me interested in more sports than I have ever seen in my life prior to the Games.
I'm looking forward to the Opening Ceremony, even though it goes on until 4am our time. I'm looking forward to the swimming, archery, gymnastics and the fast races.

actually maybe the question in this thread is....
"would you have them back here.... knowing what we know would you bid for them again?"
i know they cost money... we got a few stadiums out of it.... but for that 6 weeks when the olympics and paralympics were here the country was buzzing!!!!
people smiled and it was nationalistic without being jingoistic or xenophobic!!! |

It was an awesome time wasn't it? Genuine feel good factor around the country and a proper buzz to be able to say I've attended an Olympics. I think everyone expected them to fail (typical British attitude!) but I think universally and globally they were recognised as one of the best games ever! I hope Rio matches them |

Without a doubt. It was amazing seeing all the different parts of the UK being used for different events. |

Jo Pavey for me - he's a great GB sportsman there's no doubt - but surely there are better *Olympians* they could have chosen? (yes I know he won Gold in London) |

my inital thought was sir bradley wiggins... but then I remember that it was a cyclist in london (chris hoy)
Jo would not have been a bad shout...i just thought the story of kath grainger winning gold after all those silvers and this being olympics number 5 would have been a great accolade....
i think it should have gone to a woman... |

"Looking forward to zitka becoming a world wide pandemic"
It is funny how the Zika virus has been known about and harmless for decades but then Sumitomo Chemicals start spraying Pyriproxyfen in high concentration and these birth defects start appearing.
Of course according to authorities there is no link...
The fact that Sumitomo and Monsanto are partners and Monsanto has form when it comes to poisoning populations for profit (Dioxin and PCB's), or the fact that Monsanto has been caught in the past benefiting from 'independent' labs falsifying results to benefit Monsanto must not cloud anyone's judgement as authorities have ruled out any link between the larvicide and microcephaly. |

My friend runs in the Paralympics so I'm looking forward to that more than any thing else.
I'm looking forward to seeing who comes second in the men's 100m too |

We really enjoy lots of sports, so are pretty my looking forward to whatever we have chance to watch. Both Olympics and Paralympics.
I suppose rugby sevens, diving, cycling and athletics are top of the list along with the wheelchair rugby - though think the old name of murder ball was so much better
