If anyone else parks on my mothers disabled bay without a blue badge,and i politely ask them to move and they tell me to f..k off i swear i will put a hammer to their vehicle,so inconsiderate,sod the consequences,fed up with the abuse.And she is nearly ninety and they shout at her to ,how rude and disrespectful. |

No ,but you can ring parking services and they will give them a ticket ,but then i would be ringing them all day long .If someone is disabled and has a blue badge then yes,park there all day long ,but if not then no. |

honestly i dont think they would get a ticket even if its reported.
Its a pain and unfortunate yes, especially as you have verbally informed the person who parked there of your mothers situation. |

It all depends on the type of bay it is:
A disabled bay road marking may be ‘advisory’ or ‘mandatory’.
•An advisory disabled bay road marking is not enforceable
No action can be taken by the police or the council if a non-disabled person or indeed another disabled person parks in the disabled bay
•A mandatory disabled bay road marking is enforceable by law
We can take action against anyone parking in the disabled bay without displaying a blue badge

Since they put in the new parking scheme ,they will come out if i ring them,we went out the other night and when we got home a car was parked on the bay without a badge,i rang them and they came out and put a ticket on the car. |

If they shouldn't be there then it's they fault. It wasn't until my wife get a badge that I have taken any notice of them but it is amazing just how many non badge holders use them. |

Tell them you have photographed there car in the disabled bay and will take it to the police ,also report them for abusive and threatening behaviour as that is also a crime  |

frustrating put it in context before you decide to lose it and possibly end up with a criminal record or you being hospitalised because some bloke took offence when you smashed his car up will be beneficial for your elderly mum..

Not sure I agree. Many people have acted in hast and then had to live with the consequences.
If the op waved a hammer about just to scare someone / prove a point, she could end up in a lot of trouble...
Also there are plenty of people that will happily resolve a dispute with violence even if they are in the wrong...
It is things like this that grind you down over time and can cause you to snap...
So maybe the post could have been put slightly different but it is putting a vilid point across... |

I honestly wouldn't hit anyone with a hammer ,not a violent person ,but it just makes me angry ,the way the bay is situated ,i can get her out of the car and straight onto the lift ,but if someone has parked there its just so akward. |

Do you have any idea how difficult and time consuming it can be to get a disabled person in and out of a car? Blocking the road with cars parked on both sides getting someone into a car is an obstruction and nuisance to many other drivers. Hence why they have bays outside their house so they can take twenty minutes getting in a vehicle without bothering any other road users. |

I pulled up in a disabled bay and the alderly couple next to me where just abut to tell me off an were cleary upset. When I opened the door the young gentleman in my vehicle just smiled while siting in his wheelchair. The old gits still never smiled or acknowledged they were in the wrong..
I agree that they shouldn't be parking in your mum's bay afterall it's hers outside her home.

Do you have any idea how difficult and time consuming it can be to get a disabled person in and out of a car? Traffic wardens have targets they need to meet every month. They will come out to issue a ticket. |

I don't think that the scheme is well policed at all.
Not quite the same, but still very annoying, I watched a woman park in the pick-up bay right outside the supermarket and then watched her do her weekly shop with a trolley. Why do the rest of us have to find a parking spot, but she thinks that's OK? |

I do have one , or use one to help two disabled people ( not for personel use)
I live in London and I'm not sure if you drive round here and need to park and carry tools. It's a nightmare.
I can fully understand people without badges parking there but it's different if the person is not the driver. |

Not all disabilities mean you are a wheelchair user. Walking can be impaired but not require a wheelchair.
I have found that legitimate blue badges get misused by family members using them when the badge holder is not present, but even then you don't know if they are picking up the badge holder.

It could take up to 15 minutes to get my aunt into the car when she was particularly weak. Getting the chair into the car after getting her in also took time. Finding a space near the house is challenging enough.

i dont drive full stop. but i know why people have them. My stepdad cant drive but he has a blue badge how would he be able to go anywhere if my mum didnt use his blue badge when they where out |

Not all disabilities mean you are a wheelchair user. Walking can be impaired but not require a wheelchair.

I have been stopped and questioned once cos they thought I was abusing the badge. Only I had parked with the blue badge further into city centre near the banks and then my mother walked to asda which was a bit further up. At which point she couldn't walk back cos she was in too much pain. So I thought I would move my car to asda to pick her up and park just outside.
Sometimes wardens can be unreasonable but if you can prove your story then they obviously don't pursue it.

My youngest son has a blue badge because he has a serious chronic illness but to look at him you wouldn't know anything was wrong
He walks normally
People who assume blue badge holders are always wheelchair users are very foolish |

You obviously don't need the space other wise you wouldnt be saying it was ok for blue badge holders to park there all day

It is very sad when people do abuse the blue badges ,but there are loads of disabled people old and young that really need these badges,people with a disability have a right to a life outside of four walls,and having the blue badges really helps. |

I got a similar row going on about my daughter's disabled bay atm. I asked someone from down the other end of road nicely not to park there, she has told people I got funny. Fume, fume XXX |

True, my daughter is entitled to a blue badge but is not in a wheelchair, she has severe learning disabilities. We don't often park in disabled spaces though. X |

I think OP has already stated that if someone is parked there she cannot park right next to the lift for her mum when getting her out of car. |

wasn't saying its not a valid point, hence my 'frustrating'..
maybe its best not to let it get to the point where one is ground down and then snaps as that will only end in tears..

My daughter has the blue badge, when she's driving my car she uses it. When I'm in the car by myself and she's left it in. I turn it upside down. Cause I know the penalty for misuse of a blue badge. Not only do you get fined but the holder loses the badge. I'll go into a supermarket and park in ordinary spaces. What's the problem in walking extra 20 30 paces too entrance.

 maybe one day when you have to look after someone who is disabled you may realise. With my dad who was in a wheelchair my brother and I were more than capable of doing what you are saying unfortunately my mother wasnt ! |

People if they are not stupid ,know they are not supposed to park on a disabled bay,only badge holders,the trouble where i live is you can only park on one side of the road as there is a river opposite,so parking spaces are limited,but still no excuse.They have the parking scheme here and if you havent a permit you have to feed the parking meter,so I'm sure most park on the bay as they dont want to pay. |

We had s badge for three years while our eldest (2 1/2 at the time) was receiving cancer treatment under GOSH. The amount of abuse we got from the older people sometimes was outrageous & in front of a child. More than once I used the "Do you have cancer? No? Then piss off then" had one guy up against the wall once, he was perfectly healthy with a mouth like a sewer and I just snapped because he wouldn't shut up..
As said you don't need to be in a wheelchair to get them

Sorry i missed that. All i am saying its not possible for everyone to do what you or i are capable of doing. If we had to park half way down the street that wouldnt be a problem for us. In my case my mum didnt have strength to do that so the disabled bay outside the house was very helpful.

I have a blue badge for my disability it doesn't matter if what type or make of car you drive often it is a mobility car I can use mine in anybody car as long as I am with them as for people parking in them they can be clamped although I never seen this |

Putting up a camera on your property facing parking bay might be good idea with notice saying unentitled people parking here are being filmed. Could be a false camera but might put some people off |

I dont think i would be allowed to put up a notice like that ,people know and can see its a disabled bay,it had huge white letters on it .

shame council can't paint yellow lines round your bay. I'm sure disability people can help, something about access on medical grounds |
