I have choices.
- Take my home network apart and completely reconfigure it with all new hardware, also trying to get wifi to reach down the garden and to the garage.
- Finally get round to clearing out my office so I can get my desk out in order to put some shelves up and move a curtain track.
- Finally get round to writing some eBay listings I've been putting off for over a year.
- Sunbathe with a book, if we get the sun we've been forcast today.
- Study. Reading about change management and systems theory. Possibly whilst laying in the sun.
I can probably do two of those things alongwith other chores I have to do today, but which two?
What are you lot up to today?

"Did you get dressed before you locked the shed though, that's what has been bugging me all night  "
Yes. I couldn't be arsed to get the torch out of my car though so I went to the end of the garden and locked the shed in the pitch dark. And walked into the fence.  |

Configure it as an access point. Plenty of articles on the web with instructions. A search for how to configure a router as an access point should yield plenty of results.
Use the same security as on the main router, (as long as it's a decent standard itself, obviously). |

Configure it as an access point. Plenty of articles on the web with instructions. A search for how to configure a router as an access point should yield plenty of results.

I will be successful, ultimately. The question is how long it will take, how much faffing about and swearing will be involved and will I end up returning the hardware I have and buying different stuff before I succeed.
I'm trying to set up a wireless distribution system (WDS), which I've not done before so it could get interesting.
The kit is all *technically* WDS compliant but whether it will do what I want it to remains to be seen. |

I'll be interested to hear that it's up and running and fast as get out...you're confident about doing it all wirelessly? I'm already looking for discreet places to make holes in walls for running cable, just assuming having it 'wired' will work more reliably? |

Today Pooch and I are going to have a jolly chilled out relaxed a bit wild and windy here, so will go through rather splendid walk. have a spiffing time together and then chill out and relax. |

I don't have a choice. Running cables where they would need to go just isn't practical. I could try Powerline networking but my gut feeling is that it won't give me the result I want. I also can't extend into the garden that way.
My plan will work in theory. It remains to be seen how the reality pans out. |

Connecting the access point to the router with cable is recommended, yes. |

Everything was in the pitch dark! There's no lighting around my garden at all so the far end, at night is totally, no visibility, pitch black, black. |

Day in work for me, hoping my saucy outfit from LH arrives whilst I am at work.

Thanks. I'm seriously considering choosing two other options from the list and putting off the networking. There's a hell of a lot of reconfiguration going to be needed.
I'll be fine once I start but the thought of starting is putting me right off! |
