A friend of mine is trying her hardest to set me up with someone. In doing this she has signed me up for speed dating. And in a moment of madness I've agreed to it.
Anyone been? Or know what I should expect. Should I be scared? |

I've always been too shy and rather scaredy cat to go -- let me know if it's fun and I may reconsider, but for now I shall live vicariously through your bravery!! |

I'm nervous because in person I'm quite shy. It's in a couple of weeks, I'll let you know how it goes. |

"Not been, but it does sound like it could be a heap of fun
I've agreed to go because I think it'll be a giggle. "
Be sure to take the ribbons out or you'll get paired with some rough arsed builder type |

Just remember, everyone is probably feeling the same -- a genuine compliment and a giggle will always be a winner
Keep me posted!! |

I was thinking of having ribbons, it's a talking point at least. |

My concern is my nerves. I'll probably end up saying ridiculous things. I'm really more of a second impression kind of guy. |

"My concern would be if you only had limited time to chat how they would manage to have their say "
That could work in my favour. If they are chatty anyway. |

In person I'm a natural introvert, and a dork
this is now speed dating would be for me:
.
Him: hello,pretty dress
Me: did you know there are around 5000 species of potato?
Him: awkward silence and sharp exit
|

Oh my gosh! We look uncannily alike! Can't believe it. However I don't have the courage or inclination to post face pics. Wish I had bigger boobs though. I'm only a DD sadly |

I'm an introvert and a dork too. This is what worries me. |

"If my date goes badly this week I'll come with you, I can big you up to the ladies
Not a bad shout that, could do with a bit of help. "
I'm an excellent wing woman |

"Seen it on a TV programme..or was that an episode of 'Sex and the City' !
Am sure after the 2nd or 3rd intro you'll be in full flow "
That depends on how badly the first one or two go. I think that could set the tone. |

"It sounds like fun to me.
I'm not sure I'd do it myself though."
That was my thinking, sounds fun but don't want to actually do it.
Oh well, we shall see. |

"I've never tried it myself. I don't think it would be for me to be honest. I just keep imagining that scene in 40 year old virgin!"
I've not seen that film so I don't get the reference. |

"Always been tempted to go as don't really have a massive social circle and as such my chance to meet people offline is limited. "
It's part of the reason I've been encouraged to go. I don't find many opportunities to meet new people. |

"Have fun. Nothing to lose but lots to gain?? Possibly. Never done it myself but I would."
Nothing to lose seems to be the way to think about it. It should be fun. |

everyone is generally in the same boat. Everyone will be shy. It's the repetitive nature of conversation which bugs me though:
"so what made you come today"
"what are you looking for"
"what's your ideal guy"
"i'm nervous, I don't know how to start"
etc etc...
start with something random ...."so i'm going to be straight and just ask you straight up. do you like.....to eat chocolate?...yes i'm a chocolate scientist" |

The good thing is I'm pretty good at coming up with things to say on the fly so I'll hopefully be okay. |

"I did it once and it is exhausting. Not negatively speaking, just exhausting. It's an experience
I may as well try it and see what happens.
Absolutely!!!!! Nothing ventured nothing gained "

I've done it a few times. It can be great fun. Just remember that everyone is going to be a little nervous but they're all there to have a good time. And if you get stuck with a weirdo or in an awkward situation, it's not going to last long! |

I'm worried that I'm going to be the weirdo. |

"Just because your friend booked you in, doesn't mean you have to go.
Doesn't sound like my kind of thing at all, to be honest.
What if I organised a Fab one? "
Thought that was suggested a couple of years ago, did it happen? |
