Iv been Cardiff the last 3/4 years in December for a day of shopping, eating, drinking and staying over for the night.

This year is like to experience somewhere else, somewhere 2 hours drive maximum with a good shopping scene, nice food and nice hotels.

Any recommendations?

Bath is lovely. I'm sure they have Christmas markets too. I like it there.

Where do you live so we know what 2 hours drive would be?

Bath, as someone earlier suggested is lovely, or how about Bristol?

Anything else and you're getting beyond your two hour limit. Unless you wanted to fly (which these days may not be much more expensive than petrol money), in which case Dublin or Edinburgh?

London is great and has something of everything, so you're bound to find stuff that appeals. There's another thread ongoing at the moment talking about things to do in London, might be worth checking it out

Liverpool if your thinking of flying. Fantastic bars clubs and restaurants. Lots to do. You have all the music history. Plush hotel's. Theatres museums and if your into the lifestyle clubs, you have the townhouse on the other side of the river. 10 minutes away.

And lastly fantastic friendly people. Think I should work for city tourism.

Well in that case you should go, she'd love it around the Albert dock and you're surrounded by lovely old buildings, lovely surroundings, jump on the ferry just for the hell of it and there's an abundance of cafés, restaurants and bars and all the shops you could shake a stick at. x

Oxford is lovely..went for the weekend a couple of years ago..obviously has all the Univesities, great shopping, the river and other stuff. Then there's also Cambridge which is similar but has the added advantage of being just up the road from me!!
