No, not a post about my (lack of) height and tall men but about hair length.
I'm having my hair cut tomorrow. Canvassing opinions from friends and neighbours every male said to keep it long and curly and almost every female said to cut it short.
What is it about long hair that appeals to men? |

"Short hair can make a face look harsh (mine).
It might bring out the moon features of mine. It's been a while since it was properly short.
"
I looked ok with a French crop when I was 23,my face was thin and I had cheek bones |

I've never had them. When I was thin my nose looked bigger. |

I've just had 6 inches cut off the length of mine...it's The first time I've had it cut in 2 years. It was scary...but it's still long thankfully. i couldn't go short. It just doesn't suit my face. |

"Good question... I prefer longer hair on a woman but buggered if I know why."
That's the thing. I can't find men able to articulate the reason for their preference (apart from here where it seems to be hair pulling).

It's just associated with femininity isn't it? I would have thought that would be part of the reason why. |

I get that but female hair has been imbued with all sorts of mythology too. Modesty is keeping your hair covered. Letting your hair down conveys sexual abandon. Only your husband being allowed to see your hair etc.

My husband was the reason I had long hair. One day I thought fuck it,and had it all chopped off. It was much easier to manage with my busy life. I hate hair around my face and tend to stick it in a messy bun now. It's too frizzy to leave down without straightening and spraying. |

Maybe there's a biological reason for it?
Men instinctively go for women with long hair as a marker of fertility - a cave man hangover? |

It's not just a European fashion, it's worldwide |

Hair also harbours the smell and maybe the pheromones trapped in the hair act as a lure.

I've only had long hair for about 8 years but I much prefer it to short hair as its more versatile...
Its also naturally curly and I've been told I look very sexy when my hair is a bit tousled lol ... |

"Leave it long, I got mine cut shorter and shorter to eventually a bob then chose to have hair extensions put in!!! "
I'd never add anything; it grows quickly and I know it will grow back.

Tousled hair also seems to be code for sex. My hair is naturally curly too.

tend to not have a preference, short and long hair can be equally attractive on a woman and in any case short hair can also equally be taken hold of..
short hair does make the nape of the neck more accessible too.. |

I read years ago that length of hair was connected to gender recognition. In hunter/gatherer social units it is thought that men kept their hair shorter so it wouldn't get in the way whilst out doing manly hunty things, and women who didn't do those manly things didn't need to. After several millennia of this tradition humans are apparently programmed to associate short hair with men and long with women. I'm not sure I agree with this as long haired men aren't usually considered more feminine than those who cut it. |

What's to say that cave men had short hair?
Is it not more likely that cave men had long hair too... Not that there's any archeological evidence but I doubt the Neolithic was famed for it's grooming parlours... |

A quick Googly suggests it's because it indicates we're healthy and a Daily Mail poll says that 43% of men think long and wavy is the sexiest of all. |

That's also why I'm not convinced. I can't remember what the article was from or what evidence it was based on, as it was about 12 years ago. |

I have no idea why (apart from the "grab and pull" explanation above somewhere lol!) but I prefer Jayne to have long hair, but, some of our female friends have changed from long, to short, and back, and most carry it off well, however one lady didnt like it short at all.... took to wearing a baseball cap pretty much all the time for several weeks |

That seems an extreme response. It's only hair and generally grows back.

Actually I have a hunch its health as well as fertility!
We are programmed to look for the best 'mate' possible like any other species! When a woman is ill, run down, malnourished or generally doesn't take care of her health - hair is an obvious marker (lank, brittle, unkempt etc) - as is skin colour/tone/texture, eyes etc! Whether we know it or not we instantly check out all three when eyeing up the opposite sex!
Now that there are so many products on the market it's easier to 'fake' these natural signs of health with hair colour/products, skin care and make-up, eye drops etc - but guys are still subconsciously looking for the same markers - so long healthy hair will generally attract them!

I've got long curly hair and I've done the whole cut it short thing and to be honest hated it.
Such a bore every morning gettin up to style it etc so
Much easier longer can just whip it up in a pleat or messy bun and it looks awesome.
Also if your hair is like mine the shorted the curlier, it took me 22 years to get rid on my curly sue nickname never again hahaha |

Mine is curlier the longer it gets. It also grows in an unflattering Crystal Tips triangle.

I love the way long hair can be used to accentuate the naked breast. Showing enough to tease but covering the nipples.
H's hair now reached her bum & is starting to be a pain because she keeps sitting on it :/ So it's usually up when indoors..
