Just got back from a cracking holiday in Cornwall camping. But I couldn't help but think maybe Devon was a little better?
To me Devon seems to be more green, rolling countryside. Not as dramatic but more pleasant coastline and the towns not as "touristy" as Cornwall. Then there's the debate on scones!
What's other's opinions? |

West Wales and Cardiff |
I'd have a look at Pembrokeshire. Over the weekend, I chatted to two families who visited there instead of Cornwall for the first time and said they'd be going there every summer in future.
Away from a few hotspots, it's quieter. One couple were on a gorgeous beach Saturday and were amazed how quiet it was.
The 186 Pembs Coast Parh was voted the 2nd best coastal walk in the world by Mational Geographic magazine. The wildlife is amazing - Cardigan Bay has one of the largest dolphin populations anywhere.
There's lovely beaches up the coast in Ceredigion too.
I love Cornwall a lot, but I definitely think Pembs has more great, quieter, varied beaches. Cornwall wins for quaint villages, interesting shops and eating (though the latter two are changing in Pembs), but for the landscapes, outdoor stuff, wildlife etc Pembs is wonderful. |

Cornwall every time. Polzeath beach is fantastic and the walk from there to Rock is amazing especially if you finish up at Nathan Outlaws pub The Mariners |

Some great ideas there. Loving the sound of Pembrokshire. Used to use the ranges at Castlemartin but never ventured out to the coast and surrounding areas. |

I love Cornwall, particularly the North Coast. But I'd love to try Pembrokeshire too. We're lucky to have such beautiful places to holiday over here, if only we could guarantee the weather. |

We live in Devon and are in Cornwall usually at least twice a week, and we can't guarantee the weather, unless you want a guarantee that it isn't going to be as nice as you wish.
We can guarantee bad traffic, bad driving from emmets and grockles, bad / naff / ripoff touristy places, house prices driven to insane levels by london types and discourtesy to anyone who ain't local***
*** definition varies, but it boils down to several generations at least, and proximity can undo it all, born 20 miles away.... bloody foreigner... |

That's the eternal problem with any UK based holiday.
You never have any guarantee of good weather, regardless of when you go.
Because having guaranteed sunshine is important for me, I never take a holiday in the UK.

But even allowing for all that it's still fantastic. |

We moved to Cornwall 21yrs ago from Dudley area and we love it.
Devon is lovely too though, as is Dorset.
If we moved from here it would probably be to South Wales, perhaps Tenby area |

Cornwall |
I live in Cornwall, so perhaps I'm used to the scenery etc or maybe take it for granted. Agree with previous comments about the touristy nature of a lot of the towns/villages too. I generally go up to Devon or Dorset for hols, even a short break as there's always something new to see and I don't feel either are quite as "touristy" |

It's gorgeous there, we always go one day in the week, can just sit and look around for hours, so peaceful too. |
