Laure Berthaud. Saga Norén. William Murdoch are recent faves. Plus both Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Lee Miller's versions of Sherlock Homes (Cumberbatch wins). I loved the Margaret Rutherford Miss Marple too. |

And I think you'll find there's been many variations of Shelock Holmes on TV, plus people have already mentioned Sherlock Holmes films played by Robert Downey JR so I fail to see the point you're raising. |

1) Cagney & Lacey (they both made detective)
2) Mrs Bradley
3) Miss Fisher
4) Rutherford's Marple
5) Geraldine McEwan's Marple
6) HICKSON! She was fab at Marple
7) Columbo "one more thing" "my wife loves..."
8) Frost! David Jason is AMAZING as DCI Frost
9) Basil Rathbone as Holmes - definitive!!
10) Morse (bonus points for Endeavor as yer man that plays him is a ride) |

Definitely not! Only Sherlock Holmes who remotely resembles Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's books was Jeremy Brett!
But anyway, yes, Sherlock Holmes. |
