I know loads of people who like geeky pass times but I find it hard to find someone sexy or exciting when they are talking to me about pokemon go or their lego collection or their online gaming. I just switch off.
Is it too much to want a manly man rather than a man child? |

So - talking about my NAS and backup regime is frowned upon. Not interested in football - so that is out...

Errrr yes. A social meet when a guy put his car keys down on the table and I said.... oh a wee lego man. Haven't seen one of them in yrs. And he proceeded to tell me all about his collection and started showing me pics on his phone. He then laughed and pulled up his trousers leg to show me lego men printed on his socks. |

"Can you define what makes a man manly?"
Mmmmm someone dominant with a strong personality. For me I'd love them to love football and boxing and drink pints of lager with me. Be handy and practical but not be adverse to feeling emotional. Must love animals (not that that's manly just what I like) |

And that doesn't make him a man?
What is the definition of a man? Physically strong? Someone that looks after his kids? Someone that lifts weights? Someone who works hard?

"I know what you mean. Where are all the womanly women?
You know those into flower arranging, doing housework and ironing, looking pretty as a picture and being subservient and obedient to their husbands?
Well if we're being sexist around here we might as well go the whole hog? "
I quite like doing the ironing and I am a dab hand at flower arranging...
I can also add changing plugs, lightbulbs and putting shelves up to the list as there is no husband to be subservient to....
and I still prefer a manly man to a wimpy one |

I'm still unclear what a 'manly man' is .. can anyone define it please. And is the list exhaustive and exclusive? What if a big muscly tattooed fella happens to like Tom & Jerry cartoons as well? Is he relegated and no longer manly?
I'm unclear as to the threshold one needs to pass to graduate from being just a mere man to a manly man? What's the absolute deal breaker that stops you from being 'manly' ??
Asking for a friend obviously - I'm a self confessed man-child |

They're obviously all too busy doing the housework to go on here. As the old saying goes, 'a woman's work is never done'... |

"They all handed in their 'manly man' cards when they all started shaving their balls/chests/legs just to please other people."
Good point! What if he's big and rugged and muscly but shaves his pubes? Or (*gasp*) moisturises? I still need some help with the definition! |

according to the free dictionary, manly means: Of, relating to, or characteristic of men, especially when considered traditionally masculine, as in being courageous or direct: "Few men who are just about to go off on an adventure can resist a manly swig from a convenient bottle of whisky" (Jane Stevenson).
2. Well-developed or toned in musculature: a manly physique |

Shaves pubes because he likes it or is maybe a competitive swimmer - still manly
Shaves them purely because he thinks he'll get more meets - pussy whipped bitch-boy
Moisturising to alleviate or prevent dry and or cracked skin (ie medical) - still manly
Moisturising so they have skin like a new-born - not so manly... |

I just wanted to say that my opinion of a man isn't formed by his choice of socks, or if he likes playing Xbox etc.
I certainly don't rate a man higher (more masculine) because he can drink pints, enjoys watching boxing and the like.
I have no interest in immature men, but I think that is more clearly reflected in their behaviour/mannerisms etc, and certainly that's what will be affecting me more. I'm a very feminine woman, and I do like a man to make me feel womanly, but I find this is best achieved when they have confidence in themselves (true, natural confidence) and can conduct a conversation without non stop innuendo.
For me, this is a grown up, mature and sexy man.
Maybe if I was looking for a life partner I would give more thought to their interests (Lego, or whatever) but as I'm not looking for marriage then I'm pretty relaxed about it.
Just wanted to share my thoughts on the matter |

First rule of being a manly man;
Do what you like and talk about what you like, not what somone tells you should.
First rule of being a man child;
do as your told. |

An ex shaves most of his body hair because he used to be a world champion at swimming, if he doesn't it grows back really thick & coarse. But he is 100% a strong manly man. |

Agree whole heartedly.
I find the concept of the stereotypical "manly" man outdated. I'm into lifting weights and martial arts so sure I could throw a woman on the bed, tie her up with one of my black belts and fuck her but does this make me manly? Maybe?
I can go dress shopping with a woman and while most guys slouch around the fitting room offering the merest of grunts when asked for an opinion I'd have picked out a matching clutch bag and shoes to compliment the dress. Does this make me less manly? I don't think so.
We are moulded by our surroundings and experiences and shouldn't be pigeon holed into a particular type. If I'm not someones cup of tea thats fine, no hard feelings. I do ok as I am |

It was like sitting chatting to a 12 yr old boy. Which is fine had I wanted to sit chatting to a child. But I was meant to be chatting to a high sexed dominant male another a potential bdsm session.

To be fair, I like my online gaming, I love old school 80's cartoons and I definitely have a geeky side but these interests are mine to indulge in when I'm on my own or with like minded friends. If I was on a meet and we were having general conversation I would listen to their interests just as I would expect them to have the manners to listen to mine. There are ways to steer a conversation towards a more erotic conclusion if that aspect of a persons personality does not interest you. |

You can shove football where the sun don't shine, how can watching a bunch of primadonnas Nancy around be called manly? As for me I go clothes shopping with H, wear jeans & t-shirts usually with cartoon socks (Iron Man ATM) cos that's what our 4&9yr old girls want me to wear. Used yo drink pints, got fatter, now drink Rum&Coke. Watch rugby and if not on here van be found in my workshop ripping customers motorcycles to bits & usually smell of petrol or oil (but I do polish up well apparently)
Have a PS3 to use as a dvd player, have never played with Lego it's shit, Meccano for me, more imagination required and I wouldn't know what a Pokemon was if you pulled one out my butt..
Do I pass?

"A manly man to me is someone who has a mind of his own and isnt afraid to speak his mind. Someone who doesnt sulk or throw a hissy fit because he doesnt get his own way."
So when something happens that they don't like they should act like an emotionless machine?
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing manly about spitting the dummy out and having a massive tantrum. However, whether you meant for it or not, it sounds like you think a man should be forced to endure things he doesn't enjoy purely on the basis that he's a man and should just deal with it? |

"I know loads of people who like geeky pass times but I find it hard to find someone sexy or exciting when they are talking to me about pokemon go or their lego collection or their online gaming. I just switch off.
Is it too much to want a manly man rather than a man child?
First rule of being a manly man;
Do what you like and talk about what you like, not what somone tells you should.
First rule of being a man child;
do as your told."
Noooo!
Being manly to me means physicality - strong, vigorous and lusty!
But the first rule of being a man child? Play with me!!! |

most manly men are not on here, they are into surfing & skydiving and often consider both "better than sex" so they are off doing their thing |

"A manly man to me is someone who has a mind of his own and isnt afraid to speak his mind. Someone who doesnt sulk or throw a hissy fit because he doesnt get his own way.
So when something happens that they don't like they should act like an emotionless machine?
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing manly about spitting the dummy out and having a massive tantrum. However, whether you meant for it or not, it sounds like you think a man should be forced to endure things he doesn't enjoy purely on the basis that he's a man and should just deal with it?"
I dont like spoilt little boys and drama queens. |

Maybe they're all shacked up with the womanly women.
The ones who know all the lyrics to frozen, have a car is powered by pixie dust and line up all their cuddly toys at the end of the bed staring at you judingly whilst you're trying to have sex |

I'm not a gamer.
I have no interest in non sexual toys.
Even my kids weren't interested in Pokemon.
I'm not terribly manly though |
