I only ask because for 8 months of the year I am restricted to the books of academia, so for the 4 months I am not I enjoy the odd trashy novel but more often than not I like to go for something historical...
So I am currently reading The darkest hour by Barbara Erskine ..

I've read all the GoT books .... be prepared for quite a few differences from the TV show, plus a load more detail but they're fantastic and I'm getting so fed up - like all the other fans - waiting for the next one to finally get published.
I've also got the Mary Beard book amongst my holiday reads to look forward to in a few weeks time, but right now am reading the latest Paul O'Grady book ... it's just like having him in the room with you and very funny.

For those who like Gone Girl or Girl on a Train, have a look at Paula Daly or Gillian Flynn's other books.
Paula Daly was brilliant!
For those who like a bit of a crime/historic and don't mind a touch of romance look at the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths |

"The girl on the train X "
Heard odd episodes of this as Radio 4 Book at Bedtime so bought book as on tentahooks to find out what happened. Didn't realize at first the diary entries were by different women. Once penny dropped found it hard to put down. So glad it's success changed author's life. |

"Nothing but want to read a few Star Wars books that I have got to get round to reading "
There are some amazing ones out there. Worked with a guy who'd read the lot, then almost had a break down when Disney threw them all out and started a new story line from scratch. All of last year, we could make steam come out of his ears just by mentioning Disney.
Currently reading a Warhammer 40K novel. Am totally addicted to cheesy sci-fi. |

"I only ask because for 8 months of the year I am restricted to the books of academia, so for the 4 months I am not I enjoy the odd trashy novel but more often than not I like to go for something historical...
So I am currently reading The darkest hour by Barbara Erskine ..
Over to you lot ..
Likewise, but my studies mean I'm always reading something to do with history. Still, I'm really enjoying David Gemmell's Troy trilogy at the moment. Well worth a read.
Did you ever read any of the Drenai series of his books?
I've read them all. His entire collection is the pride and joy of my book shelf. I take it you're another fan? Good to see! Not come across someone else who knows him before "

Fascinating thing about 'Legend' is that the whole The entire Nadir army-storming-Dros-Delnoch-thing is a metaphor for Gemmell's fight against cancer, from which he was suffering at the time and which ultimately, and sadly, caused his death.
Also; his widow has released a couple of novels herself quite recently, she seems to have quite a bit of talent herself! |

At the risk of sounding an utterly pretentious twonk, I've recently been trying to learn latin (I was okay at it at secondary school)...so to that end I've bought a couple of what are basically little kids' books...only in latin. One is about two kids who bring a dog home that just can't stop farting. Shouldn't be hilarious, but weirdly is. |

It wasn't mine either. I was 14 and just about to go on my first (and to date, only) holiday abroad, with my foster parents; the bloke basically threw a copy of it my way and I spent half the holiday reading it. So when I got back to blighty he gave me the other of the drenai series. |
