I have been using avast for a long long time, it's free, updates often and always catches things real fast.

I'm now on Norton and it works ok

Cynical me I actually think most of the viruses are started by the anti virus companies

And while we are on the subject has anyone else noticed that the number of text jokes had dropped now more people are on contracts? Xx

Kaspersky was recommened to me my an expert and I have never regretted purchasing it. Zero problems with it and there are lots of packages to choose from. Don't buy it from them though as you can usually get a cheaper deal at Dixons or PC world or the like.

Hi All,

I now loads about AV's.

Did you know that AVG are the worse on the planet. Download malwarebytes, install it and run it and I bet you find loads of Malware, Trojans etc if you use freeware AV's!

My advice is to stay away from Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky as life fashion you pay for names!

Google ESET Nod32 antivirus. Absolutely fantastic, real time scanning on your incoming and out going emails, scan your machine on boot up, scan the BIOS for any hacks, scan everything and the user interface is fantastic!

Trust me is the best AV out there!

Once a week isn't enough if you are on line daily. 2 or 3 times a week is more like it.

if your gonna pay for an antivirus i'd say use nod 32.if you want to ue a free antivirus id suggest avg free

stay away from norton from norton 2003 onwards it uses to much system resources

and a free firewall to run alongside your antivirus i use comodo.

also id reccomend adaware free to run every week or so to remove malware etc.

i'd also suggest ccleaner tor emove any offline data cookies and any nasties it may find. if you try soem of the above your machine should run a bit quicker and be less prone to any malware ,virus or anything else the net can throw at you

I've heard that Avast has a good name. I've used Norton for a good while and found it to be ok, although heavy on the system resources.

Currently I'm using Kaspersky Internet Security and it's very very good and not so heavy on the system, and another good thing about it - There are plenty licence keys 'floating around' and thus it costs me nothing

i for one will never pay for an anti virus program as the free 1 is just as good,

and there is plenty of free 1's to use;

an to use it properly make sure its up to date an use it regularly dont let sit in the back ground an do nothing with it.

an also note make sure your machine can handle using it, as a few virus programs can an will slow down your pc or on lap top when on boot up.so no your specs first before purchase 1

I'm now using Avast Internet Security V6....

So far it's the best that I've used. Kaspersky was good but it seemed to cause a few hang ups in MS Outlook, so having downloaded the trial from the Avast website then adding a touch of magic dust, I now have a full version licenced to 2025

I find that when scanning, there is little or no impact on the rest of the PC and you can work as normal without any noticable loss of performance and there is an option of low medium or high scan priority which when set to low, impacts even less on your PC's performance (scan takes a little longer tho)

So far 9.8 / 10 for Avast

there really is none that are best

ive got a work pals pc to fix over the weekend and its got 930 infections

joy

and mcafee is all there setup fine

avast are not too bad - norton too - avg

if you want to get geeky you can get some nice routers and sofware and devices that sit on your line and monitor what arrives into the machine - but that can also get you paranoid when you see how many times a minute the average online pc is being - sniffed!

but for the domestic world in general avast are quite nice chaps

Surely the issue is that you don't actually know how good, or bad, your AV stuff is until it gets tested - and fails.

Anyone seriously concerned might consider an old pc set up to act as a firewall for all incoming traffic.
