To me - on the very rare occasions I get one - it usually means a man has viewed my profile and is nearby and horny and is testing if I'm
'Fab straight' or not
From women or couples? No idea as they don't happen unless it's a forum 'wink someone' thread |

If I send a wink it's to show interest, appreciate that some people don't look at them, but if you're a female or couple you'll get hundreds of emails, I don't mean it as disrespectful or lazy, just can't see the point in blocking up inboxes.
If I wink and get a wink back then I'll send a proper message |

To me that someone might want to chat to me and might be too shy to start a conversation heh.
But then again that's just me and I'm too hopeful anyway hah. |

If somebody winks at us we feel it means they are interested or intrigued with our profile.
We will have a look at their profile and if they look like a person/couple we would like to meet we will normally drop them a message and wink back. If we don't like the look of the profile we don't reply.
This can help save the "sorry not our type" email that we would have to send if we didn't want to chat to or meet the person/couple.
We once rejected a guy and her kicked off and replied with "I'm everybody's type"

I used to, but after awhile you realise...you're just asking the other party to make the effort ? Unless a profile says wink and we'll reply if interested I dont anymore. |

Same here but occasionally there is a good pic and profile so we wink back and it's up to them to message first...If we wink first and get one back then we message first. |

I do send winks out, it's not being lazy, it shows an interest and a way of breaking the ice, if I receive a wink I will look at their profile and see if I like what I see, and if I do, I'll message them. |

We see it as an expression of interest, an invitation to look at their profile in case they are someone we might otherwise not have spoken to.
Guarantees nothing, hardly offensive, harmless really. |

States on our profile
" Wink if interested"
Never got the argument that it's lazy, it's a simple way to initiate a 2 way conversation if both parties like each other's profiles, after all why waste time initially sending some prolonged, witty, articulate message only to be ignored eh? Xx

Had some great meets from a wink. To me it's a sign of interest whether I send or receive them. Definately not a waste of time or being lazy. I do Send messages and winks. Well it works for me. |

These days very little, unless they come from a lovely lady (hint bloomin' hint), however I remain eternally thankful for responding to a wink in my early weeks on Fab as it has turned out to equate to all levels of fun and fabulousness. |

I think those that don't pay attention to winks are too busy going through messages in their inbox, hence the lazy comments on this thread, people asking for mesaages instead of winks, maybe they're the lazy ones? Just a thought. |

I think it means they've tried mailing and got sick of no replies and now they are trying something new. So they searched for weeks and finally picked the most exciting, horny, friendly and attractive profile they could find (mine, obvs) and decided a wink would be the way to woo such an amazingly fantastic old bag. |

A wink I receive i view as a invitation to check out their profile and message them if I'm interested .
If I send a wink its the same thing a invitation to check me out and if I receive a wink back to me once again its a invitation to message them.
I would rather use this method than to write untold messages in the hope of getting a response .
I think this method coupled with partaking in forum debates and hoping to get noticed that way is the best use of my time on here . |

The impression that I have gotten from opinion on the forums (and actually reading folks profiles) so far is that ladies and couples aren't keen on getting winks, but if they send you one they expect a response! Pretty much covers it.

As an outnumbered non porn star membered member of FAB I am grateful for ANY form of contact. And if the wink or message happens to be from a couple or even *gasp* ....a woman I am totally fucking overjoyed.
Women on here get inundated.
Lots of men here get bugger all first contacts!

A wink to me is simply the same as a smile across a crowded pub or out in the street, it simply means ' hello, you look nice' nothing more and nothing less, I don't block people who wink and will always respond either with a wink in return or with a "thanks for the wink" message, however I fully understand the reasons why lady's and couples can get annoyed at them as hundreds of winks would just be a pain... |

My winks are roughly ten blokes to every couple. Only a few single girls.
Mind you my filters will tell couples and females I'm not looking for them although they aren't blocked. |

I think they are pretty harmless as an expression of interest. I'll look at the winks and message them most of the time.
I tend to do a bit of both if I'm interesting in someone. Either way it means hi

This is how I use it. Most profiles complain of all the messages so a unobtrusive wink is an ideal alternative. almost all of my connections have come this way and it works for me. |

winks confuse me. got a wink from somebody who i didn't think was at all interested in me - one of those "sent a message and it was deleted" ones. i didn't dare send a message, the website has this big ominous warning about repeat messages, so i thought "oh well" and didn't do anything with it |

I suspect for most men who send them they are treated in the same way as if they send a tailored message having read a woman or couples profile and appealing to what they want. They are ignored! for men that receive them they bring nothing but tears of joy at finally being noticed |

Seems I'm the only one who responds to winks. I don't think they're lazy and if i like the profile I'll wink back. I don't expect a guy to put in loads of effort to write a tailored initial message for potentially no return. |

I like winks. They initiated a couple of responses to talk. Catches the attention of somebody I didn't notice.
It flattering, and should always be taken that way. Unless your negative and think hat person has been 'lazy'. They might be lazy, but you don't know that unless your a clairvoyant. |

Well it seems to be a bit of a split then. But it seems that most of the people that ignore winks also seem to ignore messages that have been sent. And I'm not talking one liners I'm saying a message that has taken more then a few seconds to write and actually shows you have been reading the profile. I don't think they are lazy sending a wink again it's an I'm interested if you are to send a wink back. It doesn't mean the recipient has to put the effort in when I get a wink back I will always send a message and start off the conversation. |

I don't intentionally leave them unchecked. They just kinda languish there, unnoticed and unloved for a while. Heh!

Seems to me that it's a no win situation.
1. Complaints- no one reads profile
2. Complaints - get so many messages can't reply .
3. Complaints - Winks show lazyNess.
4. Complaints- single guys ( the worst)
Any other options available? |

If I wink at a lady and get a wink back, I'll send a message based on the thought that at least she hasn't completely ignored me (like 99% of people on here do). I got tired of writing nice introductory messages which had thought put into them, only to see them being deleted, usually without even being read.
Now I wink...and by doing that I've made contact with a couple of really nice ladies who I've become friends with...and hopefully will progress from there. Have had one really nice meet, and hoping for more |

Not really...
1...just read the profile...it's not difficult
2...We always reply to all messages
3...Too many winks to handle them all as we wouldn't wink back without checking a profile which means all of the time/work falls on us...and we get a lot of winks.
4...Lots of single guys message and the vast majority are really nice |

If we get a wink and like the profile we wink back and then expect a message, if we wink it means we are interested and like the profile but are too busy with work or life to compose a suitable message, if u.ex wink back we sit down at night and compose a decent message |
