It's just a pointless and overused term to give the recipient of a no the feeling that they are somehow superior .

Which is complete bullshit of course .

The people who say no thanks are in no way , shape or form losing out on anything . Other than a meet with ......Someone they didn't fancy .

So it's no loss at all , dignity and standards intact .

It's an attempt to sweeten the pill when someone gets butthurt. Regardless of the reason for said butthurt, in most circumstances. Not something I think I've ever said; it's pretty patronising in most instances to both the hard done by party (where we only have one side of the story) and the person that had the audacity to turn them down/not turn up/change their mind etc.
