Can you switch off from work when on hols?

Just been reading an article about how we are all struggling to stop looking at emails when on hols. But apparently this is bad for our cognitive function.

VW now stop email from 30 mins after a shift ends to 30 mins before it starts. France now has laws that give people the right to disconnect from office communications. 44% of partners spend nights on holiday looking at phones rather than each other.

I don't look at any email once I leave work for a holiday. Never have.

Brighton - even Hove!

Yes, within about 10 mins of walking out the door

I switch off from work at either 06.01 or 18.01

Nothing is achieved by sitting at home worrying or thinking about work.

I regularly switch off from work when I'm actually at work! So no, it's not a problem for me Switching ON is the problem.

When I'm away from work I won't even think about it for one second. I've perfected the whole 'switching off' thing.

I imagine it depends on the nature of the job. Some people feel they need to keep up to speed with the area/community they work in. Some people are just hooked on technology.

Jobs like mine, require very little technology input, plus I choose not to be reliant on mobile technology. I refuse to be contactable 24/7

I switch off from work every night by 6:30. I don't think about it again until about half an hour after I start

Yeah very easily but I also find myself looking at the tiling in some places and shaking my head in disbelief at the state of the work. Fuck that sounds so sad when it's written down

I have learnt over the last years to switch off - though I normally think for 5 mins before I get to office what my plans are for the day and what do I have to do

I quite like to keep track of what's going on. I'm happy to spend about 20 mins a day looking at my inbox and sending a few. I've just had a great week off and feel rested so if by choice I think it's fine.

I can even get paid for it if I was that way inclined but I think it's a bit mean.

"I might not even take my phone"

I have left my phone at work or home before. People around me couldn't understand my lack of distress at being detached from it.

"I can switch off from work while I'm at work "

That's me too sometimes. I went abroad with an ex who spent hrs on the phone by the pool to the office. I remember thinking: you don't get paid enough for that level of intrusion.

Yep! 3pm on Thursday I might as well forget my passwords already because in 3 weeks or so I know I'll be raising a call to get them reset!!

I don't bother with work emails on my days off, till the evening of my first day back.

I refuse to receive emails on my phone, as I don't want to be bothered by them 24/7.
