Still dismissive about Pokemon Go? Look at it from my angle...

Taking this from my Facebook status...

"I have anxiety problems which do sometimes stop me from leaving the house. Since I downloaded this game, I've been out walking for hours and having something to distract me while I'm out stops me from feeling anxious. Added to that, when I'm out I stare at the ground, not wanting to look at anyone. Today in a local park, I spotted a mother & son who were playing too, I stopped them, we went off on a hunt together and the son showed me how to use Pokespots properly.

Now, how can something that gets people out of the house, has the potential to help with mental health issues and helps people to socialise be a bad thing?!"

You're under the impression that I don't already have a job, or that I don't spend hours every day already job hunting and that I deserve to maybe take some leisure time out to enjoy myself?

Feel the BURN!!

But seriously, I've heard this from a few sources, about how it's really helping people with anxiety & other mental health issues. I'm sure that wasn't the plan in the first place but it's a beautiful side effect of a game. Long mag that last

As I said on the other Pokemon Go thread us old 'uns will always be against new fangled stuff .

As with everything like this it isn't in itself bad or good but the way it's used can be.

If it's helped you I think it's a very positive thing, I hope it gives you the confidence to broaden out your social experience.

If it gives you a reason to get out and about chief then fill yer boots, don't worry about what other people think. Why don't you put your Facebook account to work and or fab account for that matter and organise a hunt for like minded people, you could do a fab naked one if you can find the right place. Could be the making of you. Enjoy

I don't care who thinks its stupid, its been really good for my son who is autistic and doesn't like to go anywhere much, and its something we can do together

The bastard thing is clever trying to incubate a Pokemon means you have to walk 2 or 5 Km.

It can tell if your driving it seems

Gets people out and about so I think it's a good thing

My autistic kids love it, it has become an extra thing we can bond and relate to each other over. Loving long walks home from school, hunting Pokemon and pokestops.

It's also keeping my wiggles amused, when kids are out

I spent about two hours wandering up & down the seafront the other day looking for water types and found none. Then I was sat on my arse at home yesterday, and suddenly a wild Seaking appeared! I would've caught my first Squirtle earlier but I had no bloody Pokeballs

Seeing kids out hunting Pokémon with their parents tho has been so nice. Exercise and bonding time what could be better than that. And it's helping others get out. Just stay safe is all peeps

I wish I knew what all that meant

To the OP... If it means people are out enjoying themselves and especially families instead of sat watching telly or playing on phones in their own rooms then it is a good thing for me ( obviously not if they are walking into roads as reported though )

I am a use the phone to make calls and text type of person but even I am tempted

"I think it's a good thing. It's funny watching people wander about mindlessly but then they all gravitate towards each other and actually start talking. "

It's hilarious watching everyone gravitate towards certain spots... it's a case of if you play the game you just know who else is

I think it's great they've made a game where you have to go outside and walk about, some people will moan about anything.

My kids all have it and we all went for a walk in the park the other day and took the dog. It's a long time since they all went out together, was lovely.

And OP if it helps the anxiety issues then all the better. My kids suffer at times too so it's all pluses as far as I can see. (Safety issues aside)

"Taking this from my Facebook status...

Good work sweetie. I've been out twice this week. but before that I didn't set foot outside my flat for 2 weeks. xxxfuck picatue...

hmmmm bestiality eh

oh and its picachu

Actually it's Pikachu

whatever it is we are yet to find one

So am I!

I spent about two hours wandering up & down the seafront the other day looking for water types and found none. Then I was sat on my arse at home yesterday, and suddenly a wild Seaking appeared! I would've caught my first Squirtle earlier but I had no bloody Pokeballs "

I've got one!!!!

If if it gets you out and about. Socially interacting with people and getting a bit of a walk at the same time.....then it's all good.

Had you not said you had anxiety problems, I wouldn’t have guessed from your forum presence as you come across as someone who’s very confident. But it’s good that you found something that’s helping you overcome it. All Multiplayer games much like these forums have the potential to improve self-confidence, Interpersonal skills, build team working skills foster a sense of belonging so forth and so on. However as with all things if played excessively can have negative effects on one’s life. These games because of their social interactivity can become very addictive very quickly and people can neglect other parts of their life just to play it at least that’s my experience of MMO’s. So in moderation there isn’t a problem with these games.

Yorkshire rose as someone that had issues 3 years ago I found that walking and taking photos helped

Looking at how Pokemon works and yes I do play it but due to work it has been difficult (only on level 5), I can see the benefits

It gets kids and parents out walking and also the pokostops are great places of local info. I found some really interesting places in Manchester a couple of weeks back.

I am happy that you are finding it helpful

Bristol

Went to pub last night and got a bit overwhelmed, so popped out to look on phone and see what was close. Soon as I walked out and pulled out my phone, not a cigarette, a lovely lady asked "Pokemon"

Think she was working there and we had a giggle about how far away the damn pokastop was, as we couldn't drop a lure from pub.
