Following on from the random act of kindness thread where someone offered to fill someones car with petrol I thought great move.

Went for fuel and as luck would have it a lovely lady pulled in on the pump next to me.

So I made the move and offered to help.only to be most with a very frosty "I can do it myself"

Back away back away lol

Inside paying for my fuel. Girl behind the counter asked if there was anything I needed. My reply was just your phone number

Got scowled at as she handed the receipt over.

Oh well back the drawing board.

Bit of a confidence knock as I'm not normally anywhere near that brave but thought why not pluck up some courage and try.

6ft plus tall?

BBC?

Muscular, but not to muscular though, between a dad bod and a pro body builder, with a six pack obv?

Me neither

A stocking over the head and a 'sawn off' would have achieved both your ambitions at the forecourt.

I would have told you to back off too. If you wanted my attention, a smile and a hello would have done. As for randomly asking for a phone number, a bit of chat first may have worked.

Both the scenarios you described would have just made women feel creeped out.

Refer to my other thread about you lot being bad influence

I'm a shy guy when it comes to starting conversations and qouldnt walk upto a woman in a bar like that.

But thought a bit of brazen cheekiness might work so I tried

Messin'!

Pointing out the lengths the average Joe would have to go to in order to actually assist a woman (who wasn't having fueling issues) in putting fuel in her car and getting the phone number off another.

Having said that it isn't an episode of 'on the buses'

'phwoar, alright luv,you need a man to give you a hand with that'?

Which is prolly how it came across to her and the poor cashier prolly gets asked for her phone number several times a day.

Full marks for trying, I didn't say anything yesterday on the original thread because everyone reacts differently - some people would like that to happen as it can be seen as chivalrous, others wouldn't (as you encountered).

Personally I found it a little sickly - and can understand the reaction of the lady you tried it with. In fact I might be very suspicious of the motives if I was in her shoes as it's very out of the ordinary.

However - another lady and another day and they might love it. C'est la vie.

Nothing ventured nothing gained on the telephone number thing - again it depends on who you're asking and when whether it works or you crash and burn.

Keep smiling - at least you tried. I wouldn't have the bottle or inclination to do either

did you read all the replies to the thread?

Our daughter worked in retail for a time and was asked for her number daily at least once and could have papered her room with the little notes containing hopeful messages and numbers. She treated it as a joke but was really pissed off by it too.

If you really, truly want to carry out a random act of kindness towards a woman who asks if there's anything else she can do for you that won't run the risk of being misinterpreted just smile and say "no thank you, hope you have a good day" and walk away.

Hey that's not true I can be a terrible meanie if I put my mind to it so

OP I Think based on the majority of comments from my post yesterday my reaction isn't typical.

I tend to have a (apparently) a naive view of the world.

Perhaps as suggest earlier in the thread flash your lovely smile and say hello.

Everyone loves a nice smile.

Please don't let it put you off.

Knitter kisses for you.

My fiend got brave and left his number on the Bill at a restaurant saying "call me?"

One pay as you go SIM card and a willing female friend later we had hours of fun with him when he ran into the pub proclaiming to be "The Master of seduction"

God loves a trier Op but watch out along the way.

"But thought a bit of brazen cheekiness might work so I tried "

It does work, but you need to lead withim a friendly smile, and deal with rejection well. Also NEVER use the same line on 2 women who will then share a bathroom, you will get talked about and that burns the entire venue for you...

Keep it up. you will get laid if you ask enough women (may get slapped a bit too)

#cringe.

I didn't comment yesterday but if I had I would have said there's a massive difference between offering to help a woman if she's quite clearly struggling with something than assuming she can't / doesn't want to do it.

I'm not a feminist & I'm more than happy if a guy offers me a seat on a train (which I usually decline politely) but I would feel creeped out being approached at a petrol station.

Hope it doesn't put you off but I do think you need to try a different approach
