It won't matter who is in charge , we have a team of over paid proms donnas who won't play with/for each other as there is no pride in pulling on the 3 lions anymore because they will still get 200k a week even if they perform shite |

I must be the only one that thinks long balls and not the one between your legs. No skills.. He's won less than the last 5 managers and is a survival manager.. Not a winner for me |

We've tried everything else and that hasn't worked so we might as well see how it goes.
If he just fires some players up and gets them playing organised football as a team it will be an improvement. |

English man who will demand 100% effort and won't be scared to tell them over paid pricks how crap they really are .
But the whole of the FA need a total clear out .
Get rid of all the suits who get paid big bucks and have fucked up our national team.
Involve ex players who care .. People like Stuart Pearce , Alan shearer , and build from the bottom . |

"We won't get any further with Sam until the FA keep there noses out of selection.
Personally Rafa Benitez would of been a good shout."
Claudio Ranieri perhaps? Ah fuck it, let's go all foreign again and give José Mário dos Santos Mourinho Félix the job, we need someone to fuck it up in spectacular style
I reckon Hoddle would have made a good fist of it this time |

The England team are Rock bottom now and need someone to steady the ship .
What have we got to lose ?
Big Sam will leave the team in better shape than when he found it.
I agree with previous posts Glen Hoddle would of been a good choice |

One of the three selecting the new manager is nothing but a 'suit'. An accountant by trade... |

He got us from unfit unorganised relegation certainties and kept us up. For the first time in years I was looking forward to next season. Bah.. Anyway i don't begrudge him the job, I just wish they sorted it out before now so we could have had the new manager in earlier.. I reckon he'll do a lot better than people think, it might not be pretty but we'll be hard to beat. |

Someone said he is a "survival manager". Isn't that what England needs? Someone who can keep the "overpaid prima donnas" pretending to be a "team" in the tournament until the knockout stage?
Look, be reasonable, if as a player you can earn 4 times more in a week than the average man does in a year do you really want your summer holiday in Bora Bora to be cut short by work? |

That's why Germany always do so well in tournaments, their players are on minimum wage |

And let`s hope he leaves twats like Wayne Rooney who has never "played" for his country firmly on the bench. |

Absolutely gutted. For once we get a manager that will bring a bit of stability to our club and would have guaranteed us boring mid table no worry football for a couple of seasons. After the crap we've put up with for what seems like an eternity a couple of seasons to stabilise us would have perfect. The fa are a bunch of twats they knew who they wanted and could have had this wrapped up last week but now our preference season is in tatters and potential signings are at least 3 weeks behind everyone else so the start to our season is well and truly fexked up. I'm really angry about all this |

Draxler
Gomez
Poldolski
Muller
Schweinsteiger
Schurrle
Sane
Ozil
Kroo's
Gotze
Hummels
Boateng
Leno
Neur are certainly not on minimum wages

Imo I think for England to do well at these tournaments there needs to be a massive revamp in the English game, I think it would benefit the players in the long run if they had a winter shutdown. OK you will argue that they are on massive wages and don't deserve a break but unless they do the same as the big nations. I also believe that only having the 1 cup(fa) would also benefit the English team. My point is that the English teams play far too many games in a season |

Can you fly from Newcastle to Sunderland? Surely it would be quicker to drive? |

If being English was a key criteria for the position I'm not sure why Big Sam is any better a choice than Eddie Howe, Alan Pardew, Steve Bruce....
He may have more years of experience than the others but it doesn't mean that it was all good experience or that he has learnt anything from it! |

not far from iceland,,,,,, tescos is nearer though :-) (near leeds) |
I Said it on another thread I'm completely underwhelmed by this appointment .. given the statement after woy s resignation the spokesman said we'll find the '.best '... I'd thought I'd be enthused and excited by the best.. to be honest the names that were banded about ..allardyce, Bruce, Howe, klinsman.. none did excite me,
I hope he proves to be an inspired choice and England excite under his management, until then I'm underwhelmed. |

"Old man stuck in the past, will pick exactly the same players
Get a foreign coach "
Stuck in the past, really?
Look into Big Sams behind the scenes. He's been a long way in front of other managers on the backroom stuff for years.
The only manager ahead of him in that area is Wen get.
He's also very well respected by other managers for what's he's done with the resources he's had.
And the guys who play for will run through walls for him.
Definitely the best man for the job.
I don't know what salary he's on but I'm willing to bet he'd have paid the FA the same amount to do the job.
Whether he's allowed to do it his way is another thing.
I don't follow the he's only a "long ball merchant" school of thought, and even if he is, no-one will care if he actually gets us somewhere....
What's the best way to score? Get the ball into the danger area as quick as possible leaving little chance of the opposition to get hold of it.
His appointment works for me. |

You beat me to it. Totally agree, certainly the most progressive English manager. One of the first to use prozone, psychiatrists. Video analysis etc...probably the most important point is that he will pick players on form and not just because they play for a "big" team. |

We haven't won a knock out game at a tournament in 10 years and I think only 6 since 1966 so to be honest he doesn't have much to live up to! Hope he does well. If you like Twitter check out the parody account notbigsam which is quite amusing and hopefully will get better now he has the big job. |

"Rafa Benitez would have been good tactically. Really not holding much hope out for Sam. Maybe should have tempted Alex Ferguson out of retirement, but would he have coached England?"
He couldn't even get real Madrid to win games in a 2 horse race. Hes well suited where he is right now amongst the unwashed and in between all the greggs pasties he could ever want. The phrase gravy stained shirt will be well used in in his house hold by now |
