Die a slow and painful death (those either 0 replies or very few I mean!) and some skyrocket, reaching 175 posts in no time at all.
What is the key to a successful thread? Controversy? Originality? Hilarity? |

"Or maybe even the popularity of the OP?" A combination of originality, presentation, appealing subject matter, inclusively and timing.....posts can live or die depending what time of day you put it up.

Controversy, every time, I found that there is always someone ready to try to take me down I've found, but I just ignore them and let the fact tyhat I didn't bite, fester in their little minds |

From my observations, controversial threads and threads that anyone can join in with seem to be the most popular.
Regular threads, like the Nocturnal Roll Call & PP & Tosh's morning threads are popular too. |

I have started threads that get to 175 quickly many times yet I have also started threads that don't have any responses at all.
Could be any number of reasons. .
I am not little miss popular.
I might have posted it at the wrong time of day.
People online not interested in the topic I posted.
Any number of reasons. ..
All good

Popularity of the OP.
The subject / controversy it's going to cause.
Opinionated / subjective threads.
Timing
Not necessarily in that order but I think that covers the main ones |

"Timing has come up a fair bit. I guess posting at 4.30am isn't going to get you very far!"
Not unless it's a 'why am up this late & on Fabs' type thread |

"PB troops off to find a year old thread that needs resurrecting.. you know, just to blow smoke up the OP's ass
Totally unnecessary but ok! "
It's funny though! The weird and wonderful ways of fab! |

It definitely the popularity of the person, and iv found if the op is popular the threads mood is more a jovial affair, they dont seem to get much stick if its controvertial unlike a newbie who would get great wrath to descend on unto them.....ooops |

Still being relatively new to the forums I've seen how difficult it can be to engage in discussions.
I don't think this is often intentional but you can decide to give up and not bother.
I'm a stubborn little thing though and I've chatted to lovely people from the forum so I stuck it out.
You can see the freeze though.....it's not nice to feel like it or witness it.
Just my personal experience. |

Can't say I take much notice of who the Op is so definitely not popularity for me.
I do like tongue-in-cheeks threads and anything to do with music/tv/film. |

Subject (some are done to death, how big Is 'vwes??)
Time
The Original poster (less importance imo) |
