We live in a new build block of flats and the sound proofing is really good. We're on the ground floor and never hear the guy above us walking around or watching tv or playing music... but occasionally he goes absolutely nuts screaming at (I presume) his ex and we hear it word for word.

Is it wrong of me to get a perverse enjoyment from listening to someone else's argument?

Whatever floats your boat, you're not hurting anyone, you're not inflaming the situation by turning off the TV and kicking back with a brew, tuning into his tirade. You don't even need a licence fee for it either!

I would say no it's not wrong. You can't help listening if he is shouting that loud. XXX

Perhaps pleasure is the wrong word then, morbid curiosity?

If you were sitting outside a cafe having a coffee and across the road a couple started having an arguement, would you watch and listen, or carry on your conversation or reading your book or whatever you were doing before?

Yeah I suppose. I wouldn't take pleasure though, quite the opposite. Makes me feel very anxious. Can't watch Eastenders for the amount of shouting and arguing. Stresses me out lol

I was always told it was rude to listen in to other peoples conversations.

I would hate living in a block of flats for exactly the situation you have explained above, just glad I am in the country with an acre of garden and nearest neighbour 60 yards away,

in saying that, the wildlife can be noisy, owls at night, or cows & sheep, still living the "good life" is a good way to live
