I think if someone else believing it affects you,then you're essentially questioning your own belief. Or at the very least you're being slightly arrogant to assume others should follow your train of thought.
However..I don't believe bacon sarnies should be without red sauce. If someone stuck Brown on it...yes I'd be bothered. |

yes it does affect you.
there are plenty of non-religious people who have been influenced by that, and live in countries where the laws are based around that. |

Certainly it can, although each instance is different of course.
For example some people believe that transgender is sick, so when I'm open then I risk ridicule or worse even though I don't believe what they believe.
Sexism is still prevalent too in many ways, and effects many people who believe in equality. And vice versa.

If i dont believe in something it doesnt necessarily effect my life but i have respect for other peoples beliefs and listen to what they have to say the might have a point of view ive not considered

My belief in something or other is not the factor by which I make that decision. It depends what that thing is.
I don't believe in God but make space for those who do. I don't see the point in many things but know that many people do and as such it is only good nature to accommodate and provide space.
There are some things that don't come under that for instance. I don't believe in ghosts being anything other than the figment of certain people's imagination and as such have no need to give that any space in my life. I wouldn't accommodate restrictions from anyone who does believe that ghosts are real because such accommodation would represent needless restriction where there is no requirement or nothing to be gained from doing so. |

I'm not sure it's the same thing. I may be missing your point entirely but I vote (for the little difference that makes, I sometimes wonder why I bother) and I believe in the things I believe in. However, I also feel that I don't need to ram my beliefs down other people's necks, just as I appreciate them not doing the same. Not worrying about what other people believe in doesn't mean I don't care.
I don't think you can ask such a sweeping question and make it suit every topic. The example I gave was religion because it's the one thing I truly don't believe in. Politics are a whole other subject in my view. They may be connected but one answer doesn't fit all. Like most things in life. |
