They say that animals sense and smell when something is wrong,so I've read.
Well, about 18 months ago I had an operation on my left boob. Has some problems, had some tests which revealed nothing sinister (doctors words),then had an operation to remove some tissue. Anyway, recovered fully from the operation, little bit of nerve pain and a scar but that was it.
A few months later my daughters two dogs kept sniffing the spot where the tissue was removed. Didn't think anything of it,thought they were looking for crumbs or could smell the cat.
Then we got two more dogs and all 4 of them regularly have a good sniff, same spot every time. The sniffing isn't like the sniff they do to sniff out food; it's nose pressed right into the spot where the problem was and a good few seconds of sniffing.
Now,I know it's not cancer, and I had antibiotics after so I'm not worried. It just seems really strange, like they know something is different about that part of my body.
It's made me wonder if other animals do this kind of thing. |

Years ago, my dog and my daughters dog went for each other for no apparent reason. They never had before. It lasted just a few seconds. We then found my dad upstairs going through a stroke.
Now I don't know whether I believe it or not but I read after that dogs are sensitive to the changes that occur in 'human rythyms' etc.
Who knows. |

Yes. My dogs know when I'm sick before I do. I can tell now because they will smell my breath a lot and then in one or two days I am sick.
They do it on other occassions, too. |

Bacteria smells, it's how I knew my children had sore throats as babies. |

It's strange and fascinating. My dog tries to lick my cuts and grazes clean. |

Yes, and this is what dogs are good at - smelling changes, in the human body or otherwise. If i were the OP I would just get it looked at.
My dogs are also really good at telling when Marc and I are upset with eachother (one of my dogs will go and hide upstairs when we are angry at eachother ). Or when we are scared, etc. I have learned to listen to them closely. |

"Dolphins I believe have detected cancers, certainly dogs have. "
Dolphins can also detect pregnancies because they see in some kind of echo waves so they can actually see the baby or something like that, but I know this to be true from personal experience of swimming with dolphins when I was pregnant, it was amazing |

No but you can say "something isn't quite right could you check it please". I'm sure they've heard stranger than that anyway |

Yes. The NHS are now starting to use dogs to detect cancer, as well as many private health companies. Get it checked out asap. |

I had quite a scary "ghost" experience which my dog protected me from when I was 18.

" its true go get it checked out however insignificant it may seem ,, I had skin grafts on my leg about 18 months ago - my best friends dog prior to the final surgery always sniffed the injured area but when the grafts had healed enough to stop wearing dressings the dog always lingered at my ankle , I mentioned this to my surgeon and after an ultrasound found there was something not quite right - I love that dog |

Most dogs have a highly evolved sense of smell, this coupled with their instinct to lick clean wounds often picks things like this up, your wound might look healed but there will still be ongoing healing by your body and this is what your dog is most likely smelling. |

"Dogs can sense an earth quake days prior also , fascinating x" .
High frequency sounds picked up by dogs acute hearing.... Scientists have been using similar equipment to predict earthquakes for years.
There not actually sensing it, just reacting to noises they don't normally hear. |

There's a guy in the UK who's trained some springers as "death dogs".... There basically picking up on the smell of death ie blood, hormones, sweat...a whole batch of particular smells attached to death or trauma, these smells can linger for months despite vigorous cleaning, he's had reasonable success with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies |

What you do notice with dogs that have great senses of smell and hearing is that their eye sight is crap, if your thirty yards downwind of a whole field of rabbits there'll be completely oblivious!! |

I've heard of this with dogs. Dogs seemed to be the more sensitive of pets. |

I think my cat could sense my anxiety and depression. She would sit on my lap and let me stroke her when I was upset. |

Funny you should say that,my puppy ran into a chain link fence while he was chasing a crow, over the park. The links were green though,so it may have blended in with the grass. The crow saw it. |

A few years ago, when I was ill, next door's cat (a rather beautiful Bengal Tiger) adopted me and would come in and sit on my bed.
As soon as I was better again, he deserted. |

I like it when the dogs walk over my back and legs. It's a lovely massage. They are all small dogs |

i think dogs do detect things we can't. mine followed me everywhere when my diabetes got worse, not sure why she did that but her behaviour changed for sure.
it might just be the sweat under that boob smells a little different to the rest of your body because of the scar or something? idk, not an expert on skin myself. |

Perhaps my left boob is more attractive than my right |

to dogs though.
also, might be the other dogs are wondering what the first dog is sniffing at so now they're all having a sniff? |

But how long ago? Bodies change, have it looked at.
Don't want to scare you but a great friend of mine had her 5 year all clear in 2014 and then in 2015 found out she has terminal cancer.
Always get that kind of thing checked.
My sister's dog took to sniffing and licking me dad's leg. he had skin cancer. They do know. |

They started sniffing the area a short while after my treatment. I'd had fluid tested, mammograms and an ultrasound, prior to surgery where they found nothing sinister. I can't see anything new appearing in such a short period of time that would be dangerous. They don't do it all the time so maybe it's because of my hormones. |

My friend felt that she had pulled a muscle in her shoulder.
The dog kept jumping up the same side.
Anyway. Long story. ....
She's recently had a breast removed and resconstructed and undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy after a cancerous lump was found |
