Right I'm trying to keep up with this on TV but if I'm honest I ain't got a clue what its about or what's going on.

Can somebody explain to me in simpleton terms what is actually happening? Has it been taken over? Or are they just trying to?

From what is coming out of the country a faction within the military has stepped outside the chain of command and attempted to annex various parts of Ankara and Istanbul. It is in essence an attempted coup.

Unlikely to succeed, and many many people will be facing a firing squad over this very shortly i suspect

Ok thank you all... This is all too much for me to comprehend at this time of the morning. Have they said why they tried it yet?

The current regime is very Islamic and seems to have been curtailing the rights that the secular country has been used to.....

Well the current governmebt is a wildly opreasive regine rapidly becoming a dictatorship.

Sadly it seems the coup was orchestrated by midlevel officers no top brass and a poor chain of command so its died a death.

It's done a fair bit of damage but as it stands it looks like its just stragglers being cleared up now the police sided with the government as did the majority of the army.

Ergodon is akready starting the rhetoric for a purge of thenarmy and government organisations and blaming certain groups that do not support his strict islamic government.

Nah Ergodon's current power is holding back refugees.

You can bet though if it had seemed he was about to lose or the west was going to side with the rebels (dont worry obama has already come out with rabid support for the borderline fascist government) then he'd have been setting up a shuttle bus service from the camps to the open border with europe.

Brighton - even Hove!

I predict a civil war - the more the president tightens his fist, the more the people will fall through the gaps in his fingers.
