"No they lied "

Oh dear, a hard lesson to learn I'm afraid.

You might pay a little more for the holiday but always make sure you see the atol / abta license on the booking form.

Sometimes it's worth contacting the airline / accommodation directly to see if they've been paid, if so you may salvage something.......

Who's rubbing people's faces in it the OP asked a question and was given advice.

It's a risk you take when looking for a deal that saves u a few extra quid.

here

Spanish company - not covered under British Atol system

There's more of this style of company out there - buyer beware

There's always a reason some things appear cheaper

Central

If anyone knows of other well-known companies like this, it's perhaps worth adding their names.

Hope things look up for those who lost out!

There wasn't that much advice given was there, just the 'oh you should always check before booking, it's your own fault' kind of statement.

I didn't know the company weren't Atol protected or were a Spanish company, I've never used them though.

Sorry to hear you'll lose your money OP.

Is it not common sense now a days to make sure a holiday company is covered by atol or abta??

Soon as you log into any tour operators website it clearly shows the abta trade mark etc has to by law.

If you notice also I asked if payment was made by a credit card as in this situation that would be the only way of getting any money back.

Come on we all want a cheaper deal when it comes to holidays why do you think lowcost ice lolly etc can get holidays at such reduced prices than the main tour operators because they use companies which 50% of the time don't have abta or atol protection.

So they hold no responsibility should anything go wrong.

It's terrible people loosing money yet what about the people on holiday who are now being kicked out of hotels

Yes I agree with you regarding the above and yes it is common sense to check the fine details. And of course whilst the Abta trademark is visible or not as in some cases, it's not as visible as the great fantastic holidays that the company offer.

There is nothing any of us can say to the OP, other than look into trying to get some of the money back, check how payment was made, insurance etc. But to go on about how silly it is to book a company that isn't Abta/Atol protected is rather moot now isn't it, the OP has done it and a little sympathy is all we can do really...

they couldn't be ATOL as they wasn't uk based since 2013, but is you paid with credit card they are liable also. I think if you used a visa debt card you can claim the cost back from visa

This could be good news....

Unfortunately our flights are confirmed but transfers and hotel lost so I need to try and claim that back. Any advice would be gratefully received xx

Exactly. And it's a gamble that I'd happily take if I was looking for a cheap beachieve holiday. But you have to accept that it could go wrong.
