John Merrick  or like I have done a couple of rounds with (insert famous boxer here)

Yesterday I got an insect bite under my right eye and its continued to swell throughout the day.  My right eye is now closed and the right side of my face is twice as big as the left.

I have taken anti h and cream but am starting to get concerned any suggestions ?

I usually react badly to bites but this is ridiculous.

My face is going to.scare the people I work with

My friend reacts like this to mozzie bites when she's on holidays, normally rectified by a Greek pharmacy remedy, which doesn't help you!

I would suggest you pop along to GP / walk in centre if it feels the same way to protea as they can probably prescribe a stronger AH.

x

Would you both seriously call an ambulance for an insect bite ?

.

.

.

If you don't have a 24 hour pharmacy near you call into one on your way to work. It'll be quicker than seeing a GP and they'll know exactly what to do.

Until then use an ice pack, hopefully that will control the swelling.

Have you put a cold compress on it?

Get to the Dr's tomorrow lovely lady, perhaps the sting is still inside the bite causing some aggro.

Any trouble breathing or throat problems then get to A&E ok?

I thought from the description given it sounded quite bad and as it's near the eye, not worth taking the risk waiting. They usually just send the paramedic in the ambulance car. Just trying by to help

My daughter reacts terribly to bites. I know this doesn't help as its on your face but she always soaks the affected area in ice cold water. The chemist always comes up trumps though.

Unless you're anaphylactic I think going to A&E

is an over reaction, the eye area will always swell up and shut. Not pleasant but not life threatening.

Take any AH you have & maybe some paracetamol if it aches, apply a cold compress & relax on the bed, head up on a pillow.

My Dungeon Room

Get yourself along to a&e sounds like the insect bites become badly infected which can happen easily with some insect bites they carry all sorts of bacteria and if your hypersensitive to bites infection can set in quickly ive seen it in a&e many times working as a nurse sounds like your going to need a course of antibiotics to clear it up don't let it get any worse to avoid long term scarring best of luck with it

Back where I belong

I'm allergic to wasp and bee stings and react badly and always finish up on antibiotics. Ice packs, etc don't work on the swelling.

Please get yourself to A&E, especially as it's affecting your eye - they'll probably give you an AH shot and antibiotics, but don't leave it. If necessary get a friend or a taxi xxx

I think I'd call 111 and get some advice - they'll determine it's likely trajectory and risk assess it. And definitely if it continues to worsen.

Hope you get some restful sleep if you don't get treatment tonight.

"That's karma for what you did to poor hatter on Saturday

Maybe

NO!!!

What did you do to hatter? Hurting Hatter would be like kicking puppies!! I refuse to believe you'd do that!!

She pinned me down and put ribbons in my hair.

Meh - where was my invitation - I'd have brought my daughter's sparkly bows!

I think we ladies should have a 'Hatter make-over day' - with tea and biscuits of course!!

Yesssss!!! Bagsy I get to do his make up and nails "

Done! I'll just giggle, eat cake, dish out hugs - and take photos afterwards!

Sounds like a rather brill day actually!

"Get to A&E, please. "

A&E is for life threatening conditions. She's posting on here so I'm guessing she isn't seriously ill.

Go to a walk in centre if you can't get to see your doctor. They can prescribe whatever you need to make it all better. My daughter used to have severe reactions like this, antihistamines and ice packs did the trick. Unless you're seriously allergic and go into anaphylaxis, then I would call an ambulance.

If you react to bites usually then you will probably need anti-biotics , this happens to me if I get bit and it's the only way the swelling will go down

often popping into the nearest pharmacy is more than useful - they get a visual (lucky them ) and you get good honest advise from the qualified chemist
