"ever since people realised most people are fake.
Hearing someone has been "authentically themselves" makes me think they ARE fake. "
yeah that was my first thought. but i do think they know they were fake and were conforming to society 'norms' instead of being all chill and being themselves.
but that isn't as funny. |

"When did "being my authentic self" become a thing?
I can't seem to go a day without hearing or reading about someone being "authentic".
"
Its like an authentic indian curry in a resturant, if you want an authentic you are all invited to my mum's lol |

Even hers won't be authentic though, unless she is in India and making it.

Have you been using it long? Was there a point when you were inauthentic? |

"I'm not authentic - I'm unique
That one seems to have dropped out of favour so go for it.
We all fall out of favour at times - hence the clique!! Haha! "
I don't think it's possible for hanky panky to fall out of favour.

Yes, it's not a term I generally used but it was Obi (Obifox) said on a thread they though I came across as authentic, and it seemed such a perfect word to describe me I put it on my profile. I would never say 'my authentic self' but when you have been surrounded by pretentious narcissism, authenticity is a very important quality to have, and to seek. |

And they've not been seen since.

"Maybe it's just another way of putting people down...if you're authentic it means others....aren't. Bull."
There will always be new ways for Elitist people to find to put others down.
There are no fake people, just folk living their lives the best way they know how to. |

Exactly.
I think the word authentic is used to describe their own life.
It's between their trueselves and their not-so-true-selves (so called their fake-life?).
It's not meant to be compared to other people.
Why others should feel that they're being put down by the word-user I really dont understand.
I think the need to criticise other people's profile based on inaccurate personal conclusion; is worse.

"I've just had a call telling me that my straight-forward honesty (in a work setting) was 'so authentic'. "
In that case (and in the 'being my authentic self' case you started the thread with) it's a weird term in those contexts since it presupposes you would be masking your true self for reasons of expediency. In those circumstances claiming that you are now being your authentic self means you weren't before. People that don't tailor their personalities to suit perceived social or other situations may actually be more authentic as a result of never having to point out when they are being so? |

Quite. It's made me wonder what they thought of me before. |

Quite. It's made me wonder what they thought of me before." It probably wasn't a comment on you, but a comment on themselves and making them rethink their use of jargon to say nothing in a work setting. Either that or it's the 'in' word to say at the moment without much thought as to the subtext. It hasn't reached the provinces in ubiquity yet so I haven't got a lot to compare it to. |

"Happy authentic birthday, Lickety "
I will second that, it's about time Lickety had another birthday, been at least 3 weeks
As for Authentic at work, many are better off with my polite suit and tie persona, if I was authentic with the waste of space idiots I trained this week they would have been sacked before day 2 |
