Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I cringe when I read a gent's profile that says he is good looking/handsome, and he is nothing of the sort to me.

I think you are right - and it is such a shame because I truly believe to be on this site every woman will have something sexy about her, legs, bum, boobs, a sexy smile, eyes... whatever... so we all have something to be happy about. And as others have suggested different looks appeal to different people...

Because some of us lack confidence in ourselves and self esteem thanks to years of abuse. I have had to work very hard to boost mine - my first visit to Chameleons last August was a massive one for me and i radiated confidence afterwards |

Well there are various reasons
If someone was to post that they are confident and happy with their own looks and they are really good looking, there would be a backlash of bitchy comments. The characteristic of being happy with oneself is dismissed by others, its ok to feel it, but never say it. Most people talk about their looks with a little humility
Most of us have pictures of ourselves dressing sexily, if we really thought they were awful, we wouldnt post them. We are all happy with our looks to a degree but when asked to describe ourselves, we put ourselves down a little. |

Actually I agree with your statement as well... I like meeting "normal" people who are warm, kind and have a sense of humour hence looks are not that important to me. |

Yes I agree with that too. It irritates me if someone says, Im really ugly, when you can see that isnt the case, or a size 10 saying, god im so fat. Unless you suffer from anorexia and really do believe you are fat, then why say those type of things.
Most of us like to be honest about ourselves and admit to the good points as well as the bad
