Following on from the superhero thread, which comic characters do you feel received short shrift on the big screen and conversely who did they get right?

Obviously Nolans batman was very well done and the man of steel was decent, wolverine has been pretty accurate as was professor x

But then we have green lantern, cyclops, rogue and Phoenix...

Walking dead isn't half as good as the graphic novels, not expecting much of preacher either.

I (fem) don't read guys superhero comics so can't comment on them

Most of the time they're pretty accurate, I get that most of the time they have to do their own thing and can't just translate it directly, like panel to panel onto the screen. Like Watchmen isn't the exact same but you get the idea

Deadpool and Collossus were brilliant in my opinion. I loved it!

To be fair, the recent batch of films have been pretty good to the characters. Not sure about the Scarlet Witch though

Oh god talking comics.........

Deadpool film good. Deadpool in wolverine was not good.

Marvel are doing well with films very entertaining but far from the comics. But nice eye candy for the audience.

Never was a DC fan, but man of steel was alright. And the end fight in batman v superman was a joke, it was like watching two films.

Fantastic Four epic fail to portray Doctor Doom as the iconic and ingenious baddie he was in the comics. Both movies Doom’s plans are never that clear or distinctive and they failed to get across the megalomaniac behind the mask.

For goodness sake Doom is the king of Latveria as well as a powerful sorcerer.  He ranks near the top in most lists of greatest comic book characters and villains.

It made me sad

Two comics by Mark Millar.

Wanted the film adaption was pants.

The Secret Service made as Kingsman: Secret Service, amazingly in my view the film was better than the comic and l loved the comic.

Kilmer was a good batman but I thought his Bruce Wayne was weak. But as said, I'm not a DC fan so easy to knock things they try.

I just think Marvel have a good balance on showcasing their creations to comic fans, tv fans and then to the big screen. This is why i like the Flash. It an easy pick up and watch, the characters are likeable. I like the Spider-Man comics because I'm hot for MJ, I like the avengers films for the un-real fights.

Deadpool is the nearest adaptation from comic to film hitting all the right notes on what a fan wanted.

I agree, kilmer was good, i also think affleck will eventually be regarded as a good batman, if anyones seen the flashpoint paradox id say affleck is like thomas wayne in that, angry n bitter

On the whole I find characters within the MCU to be quite comparable to their comic book counterparts. Whether the actor chosen for the role was a good fit or not (I'm looking at you Nicholas Cage), the general vibe of the character seems right, (mostly down to director and writers).

In recent memory, there has only been one character I felt MCU got completely wrong - enough to instantly shout at the screen and rant about it on social media. That character was a minor one from First Class - Darwin. I'm still seething from his impossible death now lol

it says on wiki that the film rights returned to Marvel Studios on May 2013, so it's not in continuity with the MCU. I guess we'll have to see if Nic Cage turns up in Infinity War

Looking forward to Dr. Strange , the recent fantastic four was awful , the run of films introducing The Avengers were very good as were the 2 Avengers films. Civil War was epic , with a nice introduction to the new Spider-man, although I do feel a little bit sorry for Andrew Garfield as I thought his portrayal of the web slinger was good. The re-introduction of the X-men with First Class , Days of Future Past and Apocolypse have been very good too. The Dark Knight trilogy was well done also , Michael Keaton for me is still the best Batman tho

Micheal Keston will forever be damn hard to top! He might not be the most faithful adaptation to the comics, but somehow he is just the best!

And the actors that have played Joker haven't done any injustice to the role (so far! We'll see how Jarred Leto fares in Suicide Squad).

But portrayed pretty well, the melancholy nature reluctant baddie.

But the Carl urban version was pretty damn spot on.

I agree with you on this, the thing I like is that they've taken the right actors for the roles and produced the films and tv shows scrupulously, everything ties in. Throughout they're aware that fans reactions are important and impact on the sales

I felt the same but Injustice Year 3 uses him brilliantly. Constantine, Chaz, Batman and the Chimp Detective in a taxi, tears rolled down my cheeks with laughter. The punchline for that sketch was worth the price of admittance. The final panels of the series were magic.

I don't like to be unkind but and as a rule I like Keanu Reeves but as John Constantine I wanted to cry. I used naughty words when shouting at the TV

My name is John Constantine. I am the one who steps on the shadows, all trench coat and arrogance. I'll drive your demons away, kick theem in the bollocks, and spit on them when they're down, leaving only a nod and a wink and a wisecrack.

I walk my path alone because, let's be honest who would be crazy enough to walk it with me?

That's just a studio thing wanting them to be separate, and at DC they never had a Kevin Feige type figure to oversee everything. So like with the shows they were always unsure on who and what they could include, why they (spoiler alert) killed off Amanda Waller for example. Recently Geoff Johns has taken that role, so I think the TV shows will improve because of that
