try 'K-Lite Codec Pack 551' from rapidshare.com

when you click on the link and it asks for you to click Free User or Premium User, click Free User

should then be able to play mp4 files in windows media player 11

Am running Win7, but you could try opening media player, then go in Options then set file association for media player to run MP4 files , or open media player and click on help link on header line, hope that helps

Also GOM Player is very good, if it doesn't have to codec for the file, it will try and download a suitable codec...

try realplayer from realplayer.com - I've used it for years and its always been a pretty good piece of software and it's free. One of it's coolest features is that after you've installed it, if you visit a webpage, any webpage, that has a video or audio clip on it, a little box pops up that has one link in it - Download this file to your pc. Click the link and you have the file, it's so simple it's ingenius.
