Most certainly would have done but after seeing the way the Welsh team went hysteric with delight at England's exit - absolutely no chance. Getting a little fed up of the Welsh (and Scottish - they are even worse buying Iceland tops - pathetic) slagging the English off and expecting our unwavering support in return. Can't stand that ego maniac Ronaldo but hope he scores a hat trick in a 6-0 win - sorry

I agree the Welsh team were a bit daft to celebrate like that, but I guarantee you their phones would have been red-hot with team mates and English friends giving them stick after they lost 2-1 a couple of weeks ago

It was a chance to give it back for once. Plus, you have to admit it was pretty amusing that Iceland won! It's given them bragging rights at their club for the first time.

I've been supporting Wales for over 40 years. I've taken endless stick off my English mates about them rubbish, being sheepsh*ggers etc I've had postcards from major tournaments etc etc. Finally......finally, I've got the chance to wind them up and get just a little payback. The players feel the same - they'll be loving dishing it out.

You've got to remember England dominates the national media so much. I used to love watching Football Focus, but it'd be endless discussion of England then towards the end "the other Home Nations are in action this weekend too" and a brief discussion.

It's understandable because England is the dominant part of the UK. It does get wearing though. In a way, what England needs is a BBC England, like we have BBC Wales - then they could drone on about them 100%.

I know the Wales team were a bit silly, but I don't think people on the other side of Offa's Dyke realise just how much p*ss-taking goes on and how it can't help but make you smile a bit when they bomb out to Iceland.

Honestly - loads of folk will support England. I do, but I can't deny a part of thinks "oh gawd, imagine what it'll be like if they win it - the hype and endless banging on about it will be hard going".

i think it's simpler than that .... nobody should be made to feel that they have to support a team other than own. support who you want .... just don't spit your dummy over it. Wales don't need anyone's permission to do well, nor do we need anyone elses support, although we are flattered by those who choose to support our team ..... as a tiny nation our default setting is to support the underdog which meant we supported iceland when they played england. if anybodys has a problem with that then just deal with it ..... c'mon wales!!!

Well, I am a fan of the UK, so I do aim to support England too. In common with many Wales fans though, I do think "you could have supported our tiny, impoverished FA by playing us at least once between 1985 and 2004".

We did ask!

I even had messages on here from English people calling me a sheep shagger and other messages asking of I wanted a consolation shag after England beat us! I don't even play football so can imagine the stick the welsh players had after England beat us. It was the first game after that so a bit Nelson haha was understandable.

Immensely proud of our team and can't believe watching them play has given me the same feelings as if I was watching rugby. Loving it.

Sorry.

No danger whatsoever!!! As an English man I have suffered hatred in Wales and I didn't like it. We simply stopped to ask directions and we're as polite as can be yet I was verbally assaulted by the guy in the Shell garage for absolutely no reason at all. From that point on its been no thank you to the Welsh. It was north Wales and I appreciate people have said to me since that south Wales is more friendly but if someone abuses you for no reason then it's a no thank you from me (male)

I lived in England for five years. I got called a Welsh c**t twice that I remember for sure, possibly more by thugs.

I managed to not tar the whole of a nation on the basis of that. I still think England is a lovely place.

Actually - if you want one-off anecdotes - my mate was beaten up very badly by squaddies for being Welsh. He's actually English, but lives here.

Are there Welsh people who are nasty about England. It seriously annoys me when people think it doesn't flow the other way too.

Hey don't feel too bad about that, even when I was in one particular part of North wales, the parts where the signs stop having the English translation underneath! I was in a shop speaking English and the shop keeper was muttering something in welsh to a customer and sniggering so I asked (in welsh) for 20 Richmond super king menthol and a first class stamp and threw in a pen pedin (dick head) *some* Gogs can be hostile to non welsh speakers!

funnily enough i was sat in the white hart in cheddar last thursday and a couple of local fellas were ranting on about welsh scum in a way as to draw everyone around them into their conversation. when it was apparent that they wanted my input on the subject they weren't half surprised when my opening gambit was to tell them "actually i'm welsh". the fat one of the two mentioned that he was an ex-squaddie as i was "re-educating" him on his veiws. there's just no need for it in the 21st century really

It's terrible what you encountered. There

is undoubtedly horrible people out there.

I can see why you would think the way you do. The problem is though - If I apply the same logic about the "actions of a few.....", you'd have be comfortable if I decide all a) squaddies b) English people are vile based on the fact a gang of them beat my mate up badly.

(I'm not applying that logic really of course, just making a point).

Just for the record - I've always found North Wales a great place and love spending time there. North and South Walians can niggle away at each other like good 'uns, but I've never found an issue (I sound English).

There's definite the faint strain of banjos in the remotest spots, but then I've heard similar in parts of England.

On a positive note - I think the support from English fans has been excellent. A few I know have commented that Wales want England to fall on their arses, but they know they've dished out plenty of stick over the years. Very impressed.

I didn't interpret that to mean the story didn't happen. Disappointed if it was made up though (except not disappointed if it didn't happen!).

If it's a wind-up, at least it's change from the endless "walked in a pub and everyone started speaking Welsh" thing (not saying it never happens) .

What the bloomin heck else was he supposed to say? What would his team mates have thought? Oh yeah - I'd take three or four - next question "who"?

Great for team spirit,

Welsh mother I think too.

The confusion started because he moved to Manchester when young and played for England Schoolboys as a result of going to school there.

Michael Owen grew up in Wales, so played for Wales schoolboys btw.

"here's to a portugal win, that bale got on my nerves long before the english got not knocked out by saying none of the english would get into the wales team, cheeky c##t its funny how we beat them then, any team but wales to win hopefully

What the bloomin heck else was he supposed to say? What would his team mates have thought? Oh yeah - I'd take three or four - next question "who"?

Great for team spirit,

He had a knowing little smile and glint in his eye when he said it. He knew it wasn't really true.

And the English call us chippy"

I'm English and laughed when he said none. He was lying of course but he knew it would have destroyed team moral if he said yeah half the Welsh team are not as good as these English players.

As an England fan I can't bring myself to cheer on another international team but I must admit that if Wales were to win tonight a smile would spread across my face, if they win the tournament I'd be delighted for my Welsh friends. The feel good factor it would bring, to a small but fiercely proud nation, would be enormous and I would not begrudge them a single second of it x

Precisely. Imagine the question being put to the England captain and he we'd have two Welsh players say (probably meaning Bale and Ramsay). It would have gone down terribly.

Bale had no option. I don't think he or Wales have been perfect - the celebration was unwise, though I totally get why they did it, but he wasn't at fault there.

Thanks for your support - England fans have been mostly great and it'll be remembered

as I said previously I would have cheered Wales on but won't do now because of that smarmy Gareth Bale plus the Welsh overkill celebrations when England were out.

England were a real let down (as per usual and are generally a bunch of overpaid prima donnas). However, so is Bale! Think he's had a crap tournament - couple of lucky goals from free kicks - which my grandson could have saved - the hype around him is unbelievable - the whole game has become a media frenzy because they all have their snouts in a very deep football money trough.

Anyhow - come on Portugal !

Exactly my thoughts.

Slovakia game - was absent except the free kick that pretty much went in to the middle of the goal. Keeper error.

Against England he hardly did anything either except score a free kick that was fumbled by the keeper.

Yesterday - he has a shocker. Kept giving the ball away but no one probably noticed. One decent effort from 40 yards where the keeper made a comfortable save.

I like Bale, but he didn't have a great tournament.
