Charisma - what is it and do you have it?

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
Following Gove's comments that "whatever Charisma is, I don't have it" I have been wondering if anyone knows they are charismatic. If they know do they cease to be charismatic?
It comes from the Greek for grace/favour and means a compelling charm that can inspire devotion or a divinely conferred talent.
So, how would you define it? Do you have it? Do you know anyone who has it?

My ex had it bu the bucketload, I always said he would make a great cult leader. I have dancing chums that have it too everyone wants to be near them, and they know it full well.
I actually had a horse that was full of it too - you could not take your eyes off him.
In my opinion it is a spirit thing, you feel their presence. |

Cult leaders are always referred to as having charisma. The definition practically describes a cult leader.

I don't have it. I'm really awkward. Marc calls me cute to be nice, but I know he means awkward.
I think my father was really charismatic. Lots of people said so, too. He was heavily involved in politics, so I guess that helped him, but it we just natural.
I think you have to like interacting with people to be charismatic, and that is where I fail, at the first hurdle. |

Do you think if a parent is overly charismatic that child goes in the other direction ?

Nah. My brother likes interacting with people, although he is a complete shit so I wouldn't call him charismatic. But he definitely didn't go in the opposite direction.
I think its just that some people like interaction and have friendly/confident personalities and it works itself into a mixture and we call it charisma. Then there's the awkward people, like me, and the wannabe charismatic, like my brother, who try too hard at it. |

Courtney, your online persona here has many adherents to the Cult of Courtney, I'm sure. Sorry, Marc, I am sure there are those willing to worship at your bodily temple too but the chances are that Courtney has the online charisma in this setting.

Trying to be charismatic must be the antithesis of charisma, surely?

Yes. It is. But he convinces himself, and that's all that matters. |

That must be terribly frustrating for him, at some level? Maybe his 'complete shit'ness comes from this sense of being thwarted in what he truly desires? Seeking followers when none want to follow is sad.

There is to, I guess you could find charisma by defining its antithesis. Perhaps it is the ability to have followers with little effort. To attract attention and support with your personality. |

"John Le Mesurier was famed for his charismatic charm but he was no leader.
"
I saw him as charming but not charismatic. I did admire his stoicism in the face of what the world would think was going on with his wife.
